View Full Version : Bad Quests List

So I figured I would list up a few quests to let boxers know what will be too time consuming to attempt on high or even medium population servers. Feel free to add your own!

Hyjal:

Save the Wee Animals (http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25385): Run around trying to right click small animals that move insanely fast and dealing with random aggro of near instant spawn mobs. Fun.

Slash and Burn (http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25608): Get on a dragon and bomb stuff. Sounds easy right? Nope, spawn times are ridiculous, probably 5 mins per mob and seeing as you have to kill 40 of one type.... Add in many players randomly firing in vain hopes to get a kill. Ya this one took me near an hour.

Might of the Firelord (http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25548): Ok this one was bad bad bad. Kill quest with very limited amount of spawns. People were running around casting AoE spells as fast as they could. Another hour of time wasted. Watch for the Flame Ascendants as they are the rare spawn you will eventually be waiting on.

I might add more later, but this was a nice NERDRAGE while I'm waiting on the server queue :)

As a boxer I would just grind instances and then go back when it settles down.

I have to agree with this completely. It sucks even for a single boxing and is complete hell while 5 boxing. just bang head against wall now.....

Got a bit upset at this one.
Been quite a while since a quest pissed me off.

10 animals is bad enough, but it is not shared credit.
So it was rescue the 50 bunnies and squirrels.

Yes, there are a few of the bunny type quests which REALLY should give shared credit, it SUCKED to box lol.
I did do a little of Black Rock Caverns but wipe with the chains on the first boss. Will try again at 81 lol.
Overall with a lot of screwing around I will still easily hit 81.
Rolll on 85 :D

There is an annoying quest for mboxers where you have to ride a shark and eat the naga around, it only counts to the one doing the eating and the sharks are constantly moving. I was able to do this 3 boxing with jamba follow strobing but they still seemed to go off on there own since the sharks constantly move.

Lots of collection quests if you start in the underwater area of Vashj'ir, just be prepared.

Yeah, Hyjal is where I am at but still quite a few collection quests. The issue overall is that with the phasing you never know what you might miss if you skip the collection quests. Most likely the second team I level I will be more educated and so can skip the annoying ones lol

Vashj'ir SUCKS. It's almost nothing but collection quests and following underwater is a major headache. and there's a lot of instances where you have to get a drop of something where the quest mob doesn't drop for the whole group. I spent well over half an hour trying to get tags on King Gurboggle (http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25732) because he only dropped his quest items for 1 person per kill.

The rescue of the animals wasnt so hard. Interact with target made it quite easy and a simple target macro.

Interact with target has been a key feature so far with the masses of tards standing on quest givers. /tar name IWT ftw.

Getting 20 helms on my guys took me over an hour. I just want to instance farm. I have lost the will to live for questing. I am only able to get 200k an hour. How do you guys fair?

But didn't some people say that during beta these kind of quests were lootable by the entire party?

WAIT JUST A DAMN MINUTE, are you telling me that Blizzard changed things from the beta servers to the live servers? FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Don't mind me, I'm just adding a whole lot of needed sarcasm for some people [not you] that believe beta servers are set
in stone and that absolutely nothing changes or gets tweaked when servers go live. As for whether the quests dropped
for the entire party in beta, I don't remember what people said and I'm too lazy to search for it at the moment.

AFAIK they did drop for entire party. The only thing they didnt change that I wanted them to was the group xp penalty. Looks like they changed the group loot back to single after beta ended :(

I'm not going all rainbows and sunshine, but ya some of these were ridiculous... the bunnies and squirrels... or rescuing the baby bears from the trees lol... and it's weird some of them are shared credit and others are individual, not as consistent as WOTLK, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... the 8 pieces of staff off the ground (x5)... was fast actually.

I used macros as much as possible... when large groups of people were all camping a named mob spawn point. Just spam, /target <named> /cast avenger's shield... worked everytime. Plus I'm on a PvP server and it's just pure chaos, and I have to admit, I really really enjoy it... so ya doing the collection quests is crazy but with all the tomfoolery going on around you, it's pretty fun.

Having played DAoC's Trials of Atlantis expansion, I'll stay far far away from underwater questing zones thanks.

My gripe, and not to instill nerdrage in the WoW fans, is the paying for cut and paste content. Quests are so linear now, very simplistic, the zones (Hyjal at least) seems to funnel you along a path. The first instance I've done a thousand times before when it was called BRD/LBRS/UBRS... though the boss mechanics were a wrinkle and seemed to feel new to me. Instance quest givers are all inside the instance?? And there are portals to pop you back and forth to hand in quests? Might just be the first one... so not sure. To early to judge though. Seems like a focus on larger profit margins with the way this one was developed.

Have to admit, even though there was some chaotic ganking... and a lot of collection quests (4 core hound entrals, and 10 seeds off ground at same time?!) I really enjoyed my first evening of cata... lot of fun.

The follow up to the bunnies & squirrels, was baby deer.
And that quest was shared credit, plus some rather nice legs (or was it boots) for my Kittens.

Plus, while I did not enjoy the bunnies, my Kittens did enjoy rescuing them.
And clawing up the mean warlocks and fire elemental things.

I am OK with the big gather quests because, when I do start them with my team, I'll be spending the time going from quest to quest gathering up materials like herbs and ore nodes. This morning, when I was running through that water zone with my druid, I collected a bunch of stuff just swimming along from quest to quest; there will be even more opportunity with the grindy quests to do this, which will lead to even more materials gathered, which I can then sell for even more outrageous profits (or, at some point, actually use to improve my professions). And green drops, and cloth drops... More kills means more loot to sell!

I think I also am immune to gather quest badness because I have leveled a team to 80 through questing, prior to the new-old world. Some of those gathering quests were so brutal that when I see someone complaining about spending an hour on a gathering quest I laugh because I once spent 3 days getting one done on a team due to RIDICULOUSLY bad drop rates, spawn timers and competition.

on save the Wee animals, just make a target macro, hit it, and interact with target.

I spent well over half an hour trying to get tags on King Gurboggle (http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25732) because he only dropped his quest items for 1 person per kill.Your junk is broken. All 5 of mine were able to loot him with one kill.

[edit] I was going to add a list of sucktastic quests but I realized that except for the kill quests, they ALL suck.

I dual boxed all of Hyjal, did a bit of Vash'yr (I found the underwater a bit confusing though) and have just started Deepholm once I hit 82.

My experince of cata has been awesome, flying into Hyjal and Deepholm is truly breathtaking and really smashes in the scale of these areas.

That being said there are only 2 quests I have hated so far, these are:

http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25599

On launch night this was impossible to complete as the boss drops a chest that only 1 person could open, and the boss was on a 2-3 minute respawn timer. Awesome world pvp was happening in here though, I ganked many hordies trying to sneak in and ninja the chest lol.

Blizzard managed to make something as awesome as aerial jousting into one of the most awful vehicle quests ever. Easy to mb though as you can leave your slaves at the quest giver while you do the quest on your master and all get credit.

This quest seriously pissed me off, aerial jousting could be all types of awesome if we had complete control of the mounts, seriously flying is awesome, why break it with a stupid button to 'flap'???

Ualaa

I didn't really enjoy the Aerial Jousting... but didn't have much issue doing it either.
Made the mistake of having all toons use the birds at once; being in the lava did not hurt them.
Decided to park the other toons, once I saw they were sharing credit.

Basically, parked four toons at the quest guy.
And flew one toon about.
When the "vehicle" was injured, landed at the quest guy and exited, then got a new one.
Gradually did all the stages like that.

When the flaming boulders were falling from the roof.
Landed for a new mount much more frequently.

And when there were eggs to break.
Just landed on an island and ran the bird like a ground mount.
Was very easy to avoid the falling boulders that way.
And got my 40 eggs done in a three or four minutes, on the single island.

The "flap" was what made it hard.
Since it is essentially an uncontrolled hop, with momentum.
Except that you can freely change your freely, and re-hop at will... each time gaining a bit of altitude.

This particular one was extremely easy and quick for me. Simply mount up, do a /tar Terrified (or whatever the name of the bunnys are), then spam IWT. Most of the time, at least 3 of my guys would "loot" the same rabbit and get credit. In the end, I think I had to target about 20 rabbits. The trick here is to mount up, and /target them. While you may grab random aggro here and there, you'll be done before you need to worry about killing anything or healing up.

So far all my toons are 84. Finished the first three zones and now doing uldum. So far I hated vashjir most. But to be honest I am starting to hate the entire cataclysm quest system. Appart from everything is based on phasing system which makes following a nightmare, Most of the quest are in stages. Each stage is something of a) kill X mobs b) collect x amount of y Item c) Kill a quest mob/others. In every god damn stage there has to be a collecting quest, and usually I hate it when the drop rate is not 100%, let alone not shared loot. Only the single item quest is shared in loot which sucks.

And you can't skip any quests since you cannot go on till you finshed all the quest in each stage. So far the quest I loath most is any quest that Harrison Jones gives... he was a pita in wotlk and now he is even worse with his god damn collection quest.

/target bunny
/target squirrel

run to the mob and press interract key.

The followup you can just let 3 deers follow you on 3 toons and you get 3/3 instant. :)

there are many of these quests you can get group credit for ONLY if they all loot at the same time. The scorpion poison in uldum i got 5 at the same time only if i mouse broadcast click the poison vial quest item on all at the same time. Found several other "loot" this random moving crap that you could get multiple credits if the whole team IWT at the same time.

I just started with Harrison, i can tell it's going to be a long road. I also don't like that the quest chains all have to be done in order.

The joust was pretty stupid. I just parked my guys on the ledge and did it with one. Good thing they all get credit. The bunny thing was ok with IWT. I was too lazy to make a macro to target them and it was hard to hit them manual. I would say make a target macro and just run around spamming it. It would make that quest super easy.

This quest is a pain but is easily doable. One of the quests in Vashj'ir, Underlight Canyon.

Quest: Coldlights Out
What to do: Wear a lure hat to attract fish
Whats the issue for Mboxers: Attraction of 30 fish for each toon
What to do: Look for these fish hanging out at the end of of the coral that look like tree branches, they are very small fish, find a small version of this corral and hold a position with each toon at a spawn point around that coral. One at a time take one toon to add more fish by swimming the ends of the coral not camped.

NO! Save the wee animals is fucking EASY! If you have all of your slaves on IWT, target the rodent from afar, and press the button, all the slaves arrive at the same time, and they all capture it (which might get nerfed).

Basically you only have to do this quest twice, once for teh slaves, once for the main toon.

low drop rate / mobs far away from each other so you can't pull more than 1-2 / slow respawn time

Entire Harrison Jones quest chain.... very funny , but not not from a boxer point of view.
Lots of gatherquests, even some kill quests you need to do manually with the toons...

The rope quest...the god damn rope quest...the others weren't too bad...although the light quest was pretty bad too.

I'm also 84 and it's been a real bitch...but meh, should be worth it...hopefully :)

Add Missing Pieces (http://www.wowhead.com/quest=28272) in Uldum (part of the Harrison Jones series) to the list of ones to watch out for. When you take this quest DO NOT take Reduced Productivity at the same time. When you pick up the 7th scroll, it automatically takes you to a cutscene and ports you way over back to Jones repeatedly. You CANNOT get back to your team if you do this. Sucks. Balls.

The joust was pretty stupid. I just parked my guys on the ledge and did it with one. Good thing they all get credit.

Just did this for 2nd time. First quest (where you have to land on the platform) I left my guys near the questgiver and they got no credit, however they were not mounted. 2nd & 3rd & 4th quest I left them again near the q-giver, but this time mounted and they got the credit, except from when you kill the eggs in the small cave.
