View Full Version : 5 Druid, PvE and PvP, what comps

Hey, thinking of making a 5 druid team sometime in Cata, and curious what comps are doable.

Obviously the Bear+3 DPS+Tree works, and the 4 boomkin+ Bear works as well.

What about 4 cats+ Bear ? Are the instant/free heals that cats get worthwhile for running dungeons? Or are 5 ferals really only good in PvP?

As far as multiple Boomkins go, I know there was once a thread on how to handle the whole eclipse thing, and other random effects on multiple Boomkins at once, can anyone give some insight there or link the thread that does?

Thanks!

4x cat + bear is not good enough for dungeons so i would go with tank+3x moonkin + tree that does some dps if you like...

For PVP full feral team, moonkin or something i'm gonna try in cata 4x feral + tree

I've always assumed, for dungeons it would be 1x Bear, 1x Resto, 3x DPS.
With a choice of Cat DPS (using overlap PvE/PvP gear) or Moonkin DPS (with a second set of gear, but not in melee range).

Four non-finisher moves, will result in an instant cast Nature spell (with any finishing move), more than 95% of the time.
And every melee crit, restores mana.
So your cat DPS will likely never be short on the mana, if you only rely on the Predatory Strikes heal.
But they'll oom fairly quickly, if they have to chain cast heals.

I would suspect, initially they might keep up on heals for some normal dungeons.
And well down the road, when we overgear heroics be able to heal those too.

whats nice for resto, is the free DPS, since wrath costs nothing, so have 2 DPS buttons, oner which DPS with all 4 and one which DPS on moonkins and heals mouseover or something on tree.

What about handling the eclipse and other random mechanics on boomkins then?

I tried for a good 30 minutes on the target dummies to come up with a Boomkin castsequence and could not. The eclipse stuff is very annoying. You would need two macros depending on if its in moon or sun, you would have to constantly check your boomkins to see which macro you need to use depending on if they're in moon or sun eclipse and then use the appropriate macro, then switch once you've maxed out that eclipse.

Go feral druids, they are awesome. I am so impressed with my lvl78 cat, she is outdpsing my rogue and paladin by 2 fold.

With the Feral Cat, my rotation is pretty simple; Rip is slightly clipped, but Rake is basically perfect... and it is an instant cast nature spell, with any finisher 97.04+% of the time.
Mangle, Rake, Mangle, Mangle, Rip

If you include: /use 13, /use 14, /cast Tiger's Fury... your normal Rip (when trinket/Tiger's) is on cooldown, will not overwrite the augmented Rip, so use Ferocious Bite instead.

@Ualaa

What kind of dps and healing do your kitties have (and what level)? My 84 Rets are pumping out massive overhealing, with only like 3-4k DPS each in pve. Really think that druids would be a good just for the hell of it team. (not for instances though probably)

They're most of the way through 82nd and close to maximum rested now.
Have been distracted by my DK's, listing speculation items on the AH, and the itch to rewatch Firefly/Serenity.

At 80th, in iLV199 gear, they were 3k DPS vs the level 80 (normal) target dummy.
Four moves then a finisher gave the Predatory Strikes instant cast every time, for an hour or so of playing with DPS rotations.
Ended up with the Mangle-Rake-Mangle-Mangle-Rip rotation, simple and easy.

The 4% heal (on a Crit) from Leader of the Pack, has accounted for 99% of my healing.
The only time I've needed to actually heal, is attacking elite mobs +1-2 levels.
Using Grid for 5x Healing Touch, every 8 seconds or so, as easily been sufficient to down these mobs.

I don't like that its a GCD to heal, and another to resume Kitty.
But, mana is essentially infinite, thanks to Leader of the Pack.
I've done 5x Rejuvenation on random players, and that seems to hit decently hard; Lifebloom seems to be more of a topping off power now.

Since eclipse is no longer as random, it is not too hard to get it down in a single macro, I know I have.
