Seeking some clarification from an experienced shaman...

Short story:

What is the exact range on the chain heal bounce?

Long story:

I play a tankadin/4 shamans combo and healing spells are all macroed to target (in this order):

- paladin's target target [help]. usually the paladin itself
- paladin's target [help]
- current target [help]
- self

The problem is that if I'm tanking the mob a little bit far from the shaman group, chain heal won't jump to the rest of the group. Tried to figure out what the exact distance is but couldn't figure a definite conclusion. Did some research as well: some people say it's 7yd, others say 15yd... that's a big difference.

sidenotes:

- I usually tank within 30yds to stay in the range from my totems.
- Most of the times, 4 ocassional LHW are enough to keep the tank alive. But fights like Rockmar (Slave Pens) require a lot of group healing.

Should I just change the macro so each shaman casts chain heal on himself?

Based off of experience and no real proof, the jump range on chain heal is longer when you're in a raid group.

It's just one of the many mysteries of being a shaman.

What I do for aoe heals is have a "chain heal buddy".

Shammy A <--> Shammy B
Shammy C <--> Shammy D

The macro looks something like this:

/cast [target=ShammyPartner,help,nodead][target=player] Chain Heal

This way, if you need AoE heals and you're getting spell pushback, if the other shammy is within range and not getting spell pushback, your heal will land (hopefully) in time to save the shammy who pulled aggro.

The bad news with this macro is if ShammyPartner is just BARELY out of range, this macro will fail to heal anyone. So it's a risk.

Chain heal distance is approximately 10-12 yds, based off comparative measurements using spells with a known short range. There has not been quantitative proof of the "raid distance is longer", although many people share Vyndree's belief in the matter. (It seems that way to me too, although I think you are just more likely to see jumps in a raid due to more people and more clumping.)

Thanks for the insightful replies!
Guess it's just another of the misterious game mechanics.

Took Vyndree's suggestion and it's working fine
