View Full Version : Problem with facing the target

Maybe this is an easy subject, but I have tried playing with this for a couple days and can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Problem 1:
PvP scenario. I have my team (shamans) facing the target in the distance (a paladin). Team starts making it rain on the paladin. The paladin reaches the shamans, and gets behind the team. The leader of my team can turn around to shoot him, but the rest of the team is just following the leader, so they do not face the target. Whole team ends up dying due to running in circles trying to get the followers to face a target that keeps running in circles around my group.
Problem 2:
PvE scenario. My 4 shaman team + paladin friend healer. My four shaman pull a mob. Paladin pulls aggro due to healing. Mob runs to Paladin (behind me). Leader I control turns to attack mob which is now behind the team, but the team faces the leader only and does not turn around. I have to do a loopty circle thing and try to get all the followers to face the target, by this time the Paladin is dead and most of my team.
I use the cntrl+alt+R to make the follower screens have a mouse and copy mouse clicks and key strokes. I use that for quests or to have everyone click on flight path, or when we all wipe in PvP I use it to make everyone click "release spirit" but this is the only thing I can think of that makes everyone turn around to fight a mob that gets behind us.
I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious, and surely would appreciate some pointers.
We're only level 17ish, which may answer questions as to why/how is the paladin (lvl 17 as well) pulling aggro and dying before shamans can attack, fyi.
Thanks =)

Are you using interact with target and click to move? For my casters, if they need to face something, I will hit my interact with target key which will make them run to their target (i.e. theyll face the target if need be). Then, because i dont want them actually to run to the target i just tap my back key and they all take a step backwards to stop running.
I made a 2-step key in ISBoxer - first step sends the IWT key, second step sends the step backward key. Kind of the same as yours, Redbeard, but in this case I just hit one key 2x rather than 2 different keys.

Option 1 - Interact with Target as Redbeard suggests.
Option 2 - Pass the arrow keys as movement to your slaves, allowing right or left arrow to turn your whole team
Option 3 - Use a Focusing Lens (http://www.wowhead.com/search?q=focusing+lens) macro (http://www.dual-boxing.com/showthread.php?t=28996)

You know, I followed Ualaa's IS Boxer guide, and I must admit some of the stuff I did was more a step-by-step even though I don't know what it meant in corrolation to the overall process. I will check tonight and try and figure out what I have set up. This is very foreign to me still, especially the IS Boxer setup, etc.

Option 4 - tell your slaves to follow the master who is theoretically in-between the target and slaves, then quickly send a movement breaking key

At lower levels your characters don't have all of their tools yet.
That is the other factor that is hard at the moment.
Thunderstorm, is a knockback effect which also deals damage.
I believe mine is on a key like =.
The key is set up for a round robin effect, as in press 1 = shaman 1, press 2 = shaman 2, etc.
I've also made a few mapped keys, with Alt & =, Shift & =, and Ctrl & = as the hotkeys; each of these sends = to all the windows.
So I can press = once or twice, as needed as a round-robin effect.
But if you have a melee who you can kill, pressing it with a modifier will have all shammies fire it off.
If you press it in rapid succession, you will also frequently boot someone much further away then normal.
Some enemies are immune to knockback, be it from Pillars of Frost (DK) (pretty sure that's the knockback immunity move; they have one anyway) or a Warrior doing Bladestorm.
You can try to spread out so they're only hitting one of your toons.
You can also just heal through it, and not bother moving.
Either way, you'd likely drop 4/5x Magma Totems, so the melee is taking damage from multiple sources.
You'll have Earthbind Totem eventually, and talented this is a brief root followed by a snare effect.
You could set up a round-robin effect if you wanted.
It could be Thunderstorm (on A), Earthbind (on B), Frost Shock (on C) and then just advance the abilities for each subsequent press.

IWT interacts at a greater distance than follow - using IWT will let you recover from things where your team gets tossed more easily than follow.

I love Round Tobin Thunderstorm. I have it bound to Alt + `, since I use it so much and using this key combination is actually really good since i can still use movement.

Yeah Round Robin Thunderstorm is uncomparable, and surely Alt + is more convenient and flexible.

I have IWT bound to alt+j. I think the Jamba Guide from their website used it as the example, so I copied them, haha. But, I have only used it when my main clicks a questgiver and I push alt+j to get slaves to all open the NPC as well. When I use it in PVP, the slaves run to the target and melee. I wish I could get the slaves just to pivot and face the target like you can do so easily with your right click and mouse movement. Anything I'm missing?

Create a two step mapped key.
Use your warcraft IWT keybind (so it's easy to remember) as the hotkey... well anything works, actually.
Set it to "Hold Keystroke Actions while Hotkey is Held".
Which is on the first section you see if you click the mapped key.
Immediately below the hotkey for the mapped key.
You want two steps.
Step 1 will do two things, Step 2 will do one.
Step 1, Do Mapped Key - FTL Assist Me, Target: Current window.
Step 1, sends your warcraft IWT Keybind to all windows.
Step 2, sends the down arrow (or S key) to all windows.... whatever you have bound to a minute forward or backward movement.
Your slaves assist for the same target as you.
And run towards the target for as long as you hold the key down.
And stop running (because of the movement key) once you release the key.

I'm going to work on this tonight. Thanks Ualaa. I'll let you know how it goes.
