First off, was the off topic forum removed, as i believe this thread would fit in there? Anyways my question: does anyone know / have experience with any differences between recount and worldoflogs.com meters? Reason why I ask is a bit bragging. We did an icc 10m normal achievement run today. And on rotface we decided to go for a nuke for the achievement (he was down in a good minute).
Usually our boomkin does the combat logs recording, but he had to leave early and I forgot to turn it on. You can see the dps recount shows in the screenshot. I pulled 17.632 dps (over 1.3m damage done), while I had to move once for goo. According to world of logs (http://www.worldoflogs.com/rankings/players/Icecrown_Citadel/Rotface/10N/Elemental_Shaman/), I should be #17 worldwide witht hat number for the elemental shaman spec. Which surprises me a little bit, since I'm only geared in 10m heroic gear (2 rings + neck are 277). Pretty happy overall with my dps output, but hence my question about the recount dps and the worldoflog one.

Recount should be accurate, as far as personal DPS goes.
However, it will depend on when it considers a fight to have started and ended, for the DPS calculation (and this could differ from the WoL/WWS fight timer).
My damage meter, will count until DPS stops, so ticking dots (on a target dummy) will prolong the fight 10-20 seconds.
World of Logs or Wow web stats, is data from multiple combat logs, so it will be more accurate for an entire raid.
You get everyone's DPS, while Recount will miss someone on the other side of the boss occasionally because they're out of range of your combat log.
Well, not totally true as it will sync with others who also have the addon.
But a WWS or WoL report will probably have more combat logs to make the report.

I can't tell for worldoflogs but I know that recount keeps stopping/resuming the clock depending on your toon's activity. Your DPS might be calculated from several time chunks (dps=(damagedone1/time1+damagedone2/time2+...+damagedonen/timen).
For example, Skada on the other end really uses the full combat duration to calculate your dps (dps=total damage done / total combat duration). It usually results in lower DPS values.

Worldof log > recount as far as i know.
There might even be differences between recounts stats from 2 people who practically hugged each other a whole raid.
Don't know why it happens, but I know it always has been like that.

Offtopic Forum is here: http://www.dual-boxing.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17
this thread is fine in this forum.
AFAIK (As of last June when I quit raiding)
There are some differences in how (different fights even) are measured. Basically recount will "guess" the combat time (usually fairly accurately) and World of Logs actually goes by combat entered / ended time. They also both have various time outs / measurement of defining an "active" member of the group. Supposedly recount has a 5 second timeout where WoL uses a 10 second inactivity timer. If you're doing a lot of standing around your averages are compared more frequently in recount than they are in WoL so this is usually the most common difference.
As a raid leader I personally only used recount as a boss to boss tool to see DPS on the fly and make raid adjustments on the spot. More serious / long term problem solving is best done with WoL parses so you can see what exactly people are doing from fight to fight and when they're using their CDs.

okidoki, thanks for the replies
- it turned out that skada from a guildie reported exactly the same numbers for this fight, so I guess it's correct
- did a test with a dummy session and recount offers the same number as worldoflogs, (which is correct as no movement was involved)
- i noticed that wol can give the overal fight dps (from combat start till combat end) and the active dps (as ele shaman your dps obviously decreases when you run around while fs is on the target - however on this particular fight I only moved for a good second to jump out of goo)
while it obviously means jackshit, happy to know the number is accurate :)
@svpernova
thanks for the link, but when I click the index forum page, there is no off topic forum for me visible, while iirc it used to be there in the past, no big deal though, just sharing
cheers
