So I just wanted to get into multiboxing so I leveled a second Mage. In Cata I pretty much only wanna pvp so I was wondering if dual boxing mages is good for Pvp? Everyone on here seems to use shamans.

People use shamans because of their utility. They can heal and have several buffs that mages don't have, not to mention the unbelievable burst they can throw out. Mages can put out insane damage, but once you get in trouble you'll probably be dead soon.
I have a 5 box shaman and a 5 box mage team, and I still love my shammies the best. Don't get me wrong, mages can dish out the pain as well, so go with what you like the best.

Mages are as squishy as it gets and rely heavily on kiting. Kiting = mobility, which is the main problem for a boxer. So to be quite honest, I think mages are probably the worst class to multibox for pvp. Warriors could be worse.
That's why most people box shaman, because they're quite a tanking class in pvp. Heavy armor, healing and good on demand burst. Warlocks are somewhat similar if they got a healer with them.

Boomkins are fun.
And are getting some nice toys in Cataclysm.
The main knocks are:
a) harder to manage eclipse mechanic, vs other classes dps systems.
b) cannot heal, in their dps form.
The team has superb AoE, probably the best.
And with stealth, you can pick and choose many of your battles.
With Cat Form/Sprint and Travel Form, you can run away from a lot of lost battles.
With Flight and Aquatic forms, the PvE aspect of leveling up is easier too.

So are boomkins better than mages in pvp? Keep in mind right now I only have 2 mages?

No one really knows at the moment how any classes will truly shine at level 85, because no one is boxing at level 85
right now. If we tell you Boomkins are great now, but you find they suck at level 85, you might be pissed. If we tell you
Boomkins suck now, but we all find out they're super awesome at level 85, you might be pissed. It is a double-edged
sword. Your best bet is to utilize your 90 days of RaF and level more than one single team up so you are able to
switch in case the classes you've chosen find themselves at the end of numerous nerf bats. This game is always
changing.

If you had to chose a team of two, either mages or boomkins, what would you choose?

Personally, neither.
But between the two, Boomkins.
Only because of their flexibility.
They can play ranged DPS - Boomkin, melee DPS - Kitty, tank - Bear or healer - resto.
So down the road, if you want something different, you have a lot of options.
Plus you can do easy heroics (Looking For Dungeon), with both the tank and healer.
With two toons...
- Disc Priest and Resto Druid... keep your team up.
- 2x Elemental Shaman... probably top burst casters, heals, rez, armor/shields, totems.
- 2x Rogues... pick your battles, restealth.
- 2x Ferals... similar to rogues, but can dual-spec, some healing, rez.

I personally would do two boomkins, but that's just my personal preference because I want to stealth! I've never had a stealth character, so I think having two boomkins would be fun. I have 4 shamans who I still like and want to play, but I was thinking w/ rated BGs perhaps just dual-boxing might be better. You can still have some fun coming out of stealth and drop big spells , like others mentioned, cat form for escaping trouble, and only playing two, if i get fear bombed I only have one other guy to round up haha. Probably easier to manage procs w/ only one other toon as well I figure. My big thing while boxing is, I want a character that can res the other if he dies. I have considered warlocks/mages/DKs... but the idea of every time one of them dies, I have to solo run him back to his body while the team waits... I could never do that. I guess in BGs that wouldn't be TOO bad, but in the world pvp that I love..... man those runs from the GY into stormwind as horde are like 5 minutes!
EDIT:
Plus I think it would be sweet to have two hotkeys, one each that turns one of them into a bear, and the other back into caster form to bomb a few heals on the bear. So if one is getting focused you might be able to save him with some quick hotkeys...maybe.

To be honest, there is no gain in dualboxing in PVP. I think the disadvantages outweight the advantages you get from added burst. So I'd say or don't start dualboxing in pvp or go for it and go with atleast 3.
I have never dualboxed in pvp. Always went with atleast 3 and i even found that crappy vs 4. The difference between oneshotting and not oneshotting. (yes, healers actually heal)
If you really want to do dualboxing then I think druids will be most fun due to stealth and double starfall.

My plan was really that if I was dualboxing, then I would have 2 more real players around me to help fight. It wasn't meant to be, i'm going to dualbox and take on the world 1 shotting people. hehe. It was more to play with a group for fun, then being a one man unstoppable rebel force.
