View Full Version : [WoW] 4boxer to 5, FPS drops massive?

done 3 versions: 4 ele shammys, dk, 3 rets, and a mixed group. Decided a few months ago to buy a 5th account, move a character over. Spent a day setting up, but got slammed at work, and now, I am back setting everything up after these massive patches.
my problem is, 1 account seems to lag, hard. It will drop to under 1fps ?? Most of the time it's the 5th account, but when I swap, it could be any one of the others. I have moved this team to UC, because of the new influx at org. But even when zone into a random heroic, one still drops to 1fps?
running 4 was never an issue, and I didn't think adding a 5th and trying to pve would be this bad.
All accounts are bumped down to the lowest video setting in wow & sound is off.
Any thoughts? random settings I am some how missing?
edit: FYI, I have disabled all addons, even Jamba and the problem continues.
edit2: When I log 1 out, the 4 are fine, everything sitting at 20+ FPS, no real lag between the 4 other accounts.
System:
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9750 Quad-Core Processor 2.40 GHz
Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System
Display adapters: ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series
Windows Vista Ultimate
ISboxer
When I watch the windows task manager, it doesn't seem to get past 5GB
thanks,

I would get a copy of Windows7 somehow, its just that much better.
Else I would run perfmon and look and see what your processor utilization is and possibly paging. My guess is that you have some affinity issues.
I would also make sure your sound settings are disabled (versus just muted) for the slave machines and obviously any voip as well, since they have a thread of their own. If you have a separate audio card, I would make sure your using it as well to off load that.
My guess is that perfmon is going to expose a race for two processors, and the other two process are going to be substantially less used.
My hope is that your ATI setup is up to date, a lot of updates have come down that are quite huge for speed improvments.

how much vram is on your graphics card?
3600 is ooooooold .. so if you have under 512 mb there is your problem i think (i had the same problems with my 1st gen 8800gts (384mb i guess) .. 4 accs/5accs in old worls/outside of instances run fine .. "big"instance (massive problems startet in l/ubrs/brd for me back then) or bc area=> 1fps .
win 7 is a good idea too but i'd try a 5770 or gtx460 graphics card first (with 1024mb vram min, a 5770 shouldnt cost more as a legit win7 home copy ;D)

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz
4 GB RAM
640GB Western Digital Caviar HD
ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB RAM
Just to reinforce what the others are saying about your graphics card, your system specs are far superior to mine above but for the generation of graphics card. I am able to 5 box with all settings to minimum except view distance to "good" and high definition textures on the main. I get roughly 35 fps on the main with the others set to 15. Occassionally, I do have troubles with FPS (cities) but your box really should be fine with a vid card upgrade.

happening the same thing here.
With the blizz discount I could not help and bought me a 5th account. Did the same thing (moved a toon to the new one)
running all accounts in one machine: i7, 4GB (1033), Geforce GT240M (1GB VRAM).
Still trying to solve that

Thank you for your response and ideas.
- Windows 7 is an option, I could go fight the crowds on black friday to pick it up. I will keep it in mind.
- I am not very familiar with perfmon, I loaded it up and don't know what exactly I am looking for?
- Confirmed all 5 accounts when loaded have sound NOT enabled, and voice NOT enabled. Audio is built onto the motherboard.
- I opened up my computer to confirm the exact video card: VisionTek 3650 PCIE 1GIG D/D/T
went to the visiontek website this morning, downloaded and installed the new ATI Catalyst. After installing, I also went into the device manager of windows, pressed update for the display adapter, it's now at a 10/26/2010 driver update.
After all that, still I have the same issue. Again, I have loaded them all with no addons vs the jamba/isboxer addon, no difference. I don't have anything really loaded except for my mouse, keyboard, etc in my windows task bar.
:(
Thanks,
Acid

Still think I should replace the video card?

Yesterday I upgraded to Win7, updated my video driver and set all slaves to min details (master still on high). FPS improved a lot.
Thank you all !!

I've noticed one window will sometimes lag a little.
If I swap to the lagging slot, it shows the other characters standing beside it still.
The windows don't freeze.
I can push FTL Follow and move any of the toons.
But they don't always know exactly where the other toon is.
On each screen, they show the group in different positions.
It's more like a hiccup than freezing.
Don't get it often, so far 3-4 times while questing with the Priests and the Hunters.
Have not seen it on any of the other teams at all.
Lasts for a couple of minutes maybe, and then is gone.
