View Full Version : Stuck on 1st boss in Steamvaults

I really hate fights like this where I have to move the whole group around throughout the fight. I also had problems with the 1st boss in Auchinai Crypt and the end boss in Sethekk Halls, but I managed to kill them after many many wipes. Any advice for Hydromancer Theria? I just can't seem to move fast enough to avoid the hurricane. Anyone have any tricks or positioning tips?
I haven't 5 boxed SV yet, so I could very well by talking through my hat, but here are my thoughts.
2 Options
1) Setup your broadcaster to do WASD to all 4 clients so you can move them in unison. Keep them grouped and when the hurricane starts (use some sort of boss mods) hit W and run them all forward. Then when clear hit your follow main key then immediately hit S to break the follow and back them up a tick. Then you can start laying into your main target or focus again.
2) Map strafe buttons to all clients, along with WASD. Make a button then will make 1&4 strafe left and right accordingly. Then 2&3 strafe left and forward and right and forward. Right when you run in, move them out into this trapezoid. This way when the storm comes only 1 will get hit. Still run forward a bit when it does, hit follow, then your move out key to reposition. This will be a little harder to orchestrate than #1 but would prevent losing all 4 at once in the case that you don't move fast enough.
That's my (largely ignorant) $0.02
I found this boss to be fairly simple, and the rest of the Steamvaults bosses even easier. This is what I did.
Place 2 dps on the left side, 1 dps+healer on the right side. Make sure they are separated so not everyone takes aoe damage by one cloud (save some healer mana). Face them towards the center of the wall behind the boss. I cant remember, but I think you might even spread them so that only one target will take aoe damage, but I put them in 2+2 groups.
Nuke down the adds first. When you see a cloud of aoe, simply run all the clones forward and out of the cloud and heal up, then continue dps. When the next aoe comes, backup to the wall again. You'll of course at least need 2 buttons pr clone dedicated to movement. Forward and back is all you'll need here.
I have a warlock in my setup, but still I prefer to just nuke the adds down, and not try to CC. The reason for this is that consecrate alone isnt that much aggro, and if you're really unlucky the add will come out of banish between consecrate ticks, and go straight for the healer. In heroic thats wipe, unless you're in total control of the encounter and can taunt it back before it gets a hit in. What you'll need is some effective damage mitigation in the start, until you've killed off the 2 adds. Gift of the naaru, Healthstone+pot, renew+shield, gheal spam, lay-on-hands is the way I deal with such situations. The key is riddiculous dps in the early stage, so you'll have to actively tank the adds, and just off-tank the boss itself. This could get the healer in trouble on the aggrolist of your secondary tank targets, so I pop avenging wrath always before going in, and use lay-on-hands for extra threat.

That is exactly the same strategy I use to beat her. It is not 100% but the issues are with paying attention. The problem is that the tank needs to move too and sometimes I just do not see the cloud in time (it kills VERY fast). The one thing that also helps is use RAID icons to mark your party so you can more easily distinguish who is getting the cloud.
It is not as important here since you will keep your toons in line but it will become more important on the 1st boss of shattered halls. It is basically the same fight except no adds and he fears so things will become more chaotic.
