Is it possible to have 1 computer and have 2 people playing 2 clients?

Sometimes a friend will come over to watch movies and things. Often commented that it is a shame he doesn't have a good laptop to play. So I was thinking, is there any way I could launch a separate client for him to play his own character from the same computer?

I really don't know if this would at all be possible or how to do it?

I'm a noob, but I don't think that's possible. Would be fun though :D

Yes that is definitely possible. It will require some work to set this up properly. I could elaborate on the Linux way to do this, but I guess you ain't gonna use that. I'm i'm wrong, tell me and I'll be glad to explain.

It's not worth it. Just set them up on a spare PC or something. I mean were you both going to try to share the keyboard/mouse? and monitors, sharing that too? I'm sure you could set something up, like 2 USB keyboards, and individual key bindings, with keyclone sending the keys about, but you can't both use the mouse afaik.

I just set up friends on my backup PC, which also comes in handy for raid night if my main pc has patching problems, etc.

We would each have our own mouse and keyboard.

I'd want something like two virtual machines set up which only recognise one of the keyboards each.

Have you ever tried running wow on a virtual machine?.. not the gameplay experience that i would like, as VM's don't really handle 3d acceleration very well

Lol vmware would suck. It's even a pain to program in. Your best bet would be to just buy some trash pc, since wow runs on anything. I have some old pc's I tossed in the garbage that ran wow np. Your idea would be fun to setup I think, but it isn't worthwhile gaming. And like said above mouse issues would arise even with 2 hooked up.

is there even a way to have a computer running with two mice working independantly of each other?

You can connect two mice and the system will recognize them. But you'll just be fighting over the same cursor. >.<

What you are asking for is theoretically possible, I have done it before. It obviously requires 2 monitors, 2 keyboards, and 2 mice. The Virtual machine can "capture" input from one of the mouse / keyboard sets while the other set stays as default for the host PC. The second monitor would display the Virtual PC and react to only the "captured" mouse and keyboard inputs.

While it is possible, I would not have high hopes for its gaming potential, but you could always try it out and see what the performance is like.
