View Full Version : Elo's Setup
Hey all, here's the picture of my setup that I've been meaning to post for a while. What you're seeing is the following
AMD 3800+ Main machine (CRT in middle) with 7800GTX
Core 2 Duo 2.33ghz Secondary machine with 7800GTX running (2) 22" LCD's mounted vertically on Neo-Flex stands
Logitech G15 and X-Keys Pro (love it)
I'm playing 1 Prot Pally (46) and 4 Elem Shammy's (45)
So far instances are cake. Have done Deadmines, Stockades, SFK, SM (all), Uldaman, and ZF all the way through within the correct level range. It's a blast!
Enjoy!

looks awesome man. But Bud? MGD FTW.
Very slick, I love the rotated vertical monitors.
Are you using Vista? I was under the impression that XP had a problem running more than 2 screens on one computer and even then requires you to horizontal span it, which means you cannot also rotate one of the screens.
Thx all.
I'm running XP in dual screen mode. Note that that's a function of the graphics driver rather than the OS. Maybe it's a semi recent change to the Nvidia drivers? True I can't rotate in horizontal, I tried because of a suggestion that dual screen reduces framerate but no dice. Regardless if I scale back all the settings I'm still running ok at 1024x768. Not sure what my actual framerate is but I'm not concerned because I don't look at those screens much :)
I just lucked into the 22's working as well as they do. I'd purchased them when dual boxing but when I started 5 boxing it was the only orientation that made sense and it just worked out. Works out to be 1050x785 for each instance and it looks great.
A note for anyone looking to purchase new. My particular LCD's (Optiquest Q22wb) have a great viewing angle when mounted horizontal but they are NOT designed to mount vertical (hence no rotating stand). The result of this is that my viewing angle is very particular when they're mounted vertically so if I lean just a few inches in either direction them dim incredibly. I'm ok with it given the price tag but if that will bug you be sure to check specs carefully if you want to rotate your widescreen LCD's. Probably sticking with something like the Dell Ultrasharp that comes with rotating stand would be ideal.
The Dell 30" monitors work great in portrait as well, viewing angle wise. The mount that comes with it does not support that though :)
So you just run 3 monitors with 2 graphics cards and you get ok frame rates in XP? Curious.
You are right it is a driver limitation but instead of fixing it, nVidia seems to simply fix it in Vista and not port it back to XP.

i think you should submit it for the "screen shot of the day" on blizzard's site
maybe with something going on, instead of the login screen
Wow, thanks guys! I didn't expect such praise, kind of thought it to be a modest setup.
Maybe I'll submit a screen to blizz after I replace that CRT, it's the real eyesore of the rig right now.

Wow never thought of it, excellent idea :D , shall call my supplier today for some new monitors :P .
Tested it with the nvidia rotate tool , it cuts fps just slightly but its hardly noticeable.

if you submit... try to sneak in a dual-boxing.com logo somewhere ;)

Excellent set-up m8, may well have to invest in another monitor and steal this idea for myself :) as 4 toons on one screen is a bit cramped for my liking.
This is my favorite pic so far. Just becauase of the Bud. If I ever put together a 5 boxing setup, my desktop will have similar ornaments.
Great job elo!
