I'm planning on doing a refresh on the main system soon and was thinking of going with more than 4Gigs of main memory.....
I played around with xp64 during beta and found it to be okay, with the obvious driver issues. Anyone running it and liking it?
Thanks,
Blorton

I've got XPx64 on my system and don't have any issues. The only thing that was annoying was finding drivers for my n52, but there may be an offical version by now.

Stay away from 64 bit OS's for the time being. Problems will come up from time to time. I've heard it a million times, some new device will come out, you will want it but after purchase you will find out they dont have 64 bit drivers and you will feel burnt.

There really is no advantage to running 64 bit windows of any flavor at the moment. No compelling software at the moment. Linux is another story.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm mainly looking at xp64 simply to be able to address more than 4gigs of system memory. (Or 3.5G if you want to be particular about it.)
Yea, I know driver issues can be a real pita. (sadly)
Yes, Linux on x64 is amazing. I run that at work and love it. I was optimistically thinking memory and process handling under xp64 would be an improvement.
Hmmm, time to go digging around on comparos....
Thanks!

I currently run Vista 64 on my machine with 4 gigs of ram, while you may have issues with older hardware this is a new build and things work fine.
I get better performance under wow, lotro etc. then I do under XP and the 64 bit version of Vista runs smoother ie: snappier then the 32-bit version.
XP 64 on the other hand is a mess, it was an after thought that was hodge podged together from two different code bases and has no quality driver support. Vista on the other hand requires that 32-64 bit drivers are released together.
If you wish to discuss this further as I am rushing this post please let me know.

Thanks for the info!
Are you saying the vista64 actually runs better than xp32?

For me it does, but again this is a new gaming rig that is high end. And being able to use my entire 4 gigs of ram works wonders.
I frequently play wow or lotro/eq2 at the same time and notice no noticeable slow down and under XP it wasn't so pretty. :)
