Well i recently downloaded autodesk for my engineering class and part of the program accidentally got installed onto my 80gb SSD that is reserved for WoW and Windows only. It took up about 10GB of my 25GB that I had free on the drive. Once I found out what I had done I uninstalled it, and found the 10gb folder and manually deleted it. It said that i was successfully deleted and afterwards I emptied the trashcan and ran disk cleanup. Even after all that, im still sitting at only 10GB free on my drive when I should have well over 20.

What causes this?

Well what I had todo in order to free up space on the SSD is
Turn off Hibernation
PageFile off
System restore
and turn off indexing and you should see about 10-15gig
hope this worked for yeah

not sure if I am correct, I remember reading that when you delete the file off a SSD, you can not reuse that space again until you rewrite over it either by using the trim function or using some sort of program to do the hard part for you.

I use a intel 40GB value drive and I use the " intel SSD toolbox" program that runs a optimizing function to make the drive almost like new. I have to run this once a week as the program suggests. This might help you with your problem, but keep in mind that you need to have the latest firmware for the SSD, and it can not be a 50nm drive or higher, must be below that and support the trim function

If you do not have a Intel SSD, but another company brand. Might want to head over to their website and look for you're drive and whatever programs that can help you with it.

When I look at explorer and add up the total files it comes up to about 55GBs, meaning i should have 25gb's of free space but it is only showing 10 under the properties.

Its and Intel SSD and I have run the optimizer a few times now and nothing has changed.

Here is a handy utility for helping to determine which files are hogging disk space:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/windirstat/

I use this at work and at home to help ferret out files and/or identify users who need to clean up their files.
