Prior to patch 4.0.1, most battlegroups in Europe had a handful of non English speaking realms. Being on an English speaking horde realm, I could face a German alliance team in a BG, but never team up with them. With the 1 big pool now, it's pretty awesome ... had a couple of Germans in my team who did not speak English whatsoever. The 3 Frenchies refused to talk English as well. Which resulted in most people just speaking their native language in BG chat. Awesome. Getting the team to follow some basic tactics in the average BG wasn't simple before, but now it's getting even better.

It's kinda hard to grasp the reasoning and motives of the person @ blizzard who came up with this concept. 20k volt on his balls will prevent him from reproducing himself, that's the least that they could do.

I'd imagine the latency of the US servers would be rather atrocious from Europe.

you could learn some languages instead of just speaking in 'whiner' all the time

As a matter of fact I've tried that with a trial account last year, as I tend to play during the nights mostly (our time). From 30-40ms it jumped to 300+.

Now that's constructive.

I haven't played yet myself, but that could indeed be proper annoying :/

I'm curious what 5 you speak that you wouldn't be able to find some commonality between people who speak French and German - mostly asiatic or (less likely) slavic languages, I would guess?

I do speak french and german, but this post was not about me not understanding them. But about the concept of throwing people together who have their clients in their own language for years (and obviously want to keep communicating in their own language) with *foreign* language realms.

To the troll: I'd love to see the reactions from the american players when they would be mixed up with e.g. chinese players in BG's. Go tell them to learn chinese!

Ah, Gotcha!

Speaking as a usian, yeah we are as a rule bad about being bilingual or even trying. It's pretty dumb considering our neighbors to the south and north.

Well there is way less need in the us to speak multiple languages than for instance in my country. For the simple fact that you have what 250m native English speakers and a good part of the world communicates with you in English as well. In my country (1/13th the size of California, with 11m ppl) we have 3 official languages. If we want to go to the left or right, we have to speak another language, or they don't understand us. So the 'bad' example as you describe the US is more a natural reason than being 'lazy', whereas for us it's more a 'need' rather than being not lazy, we just learn 4 languages in school (well apart from the plumbers, construction workers, etc).

I'm not even thinking about mere utility as much as I'm thinking about foreign languages as a doorway into other cultures & ways of thinking, and be excellent for growth as a person and individual.

Though, I do think learning at least some Spanish for USians is a good idea because it can be very useful, and it isn't like we're going to have smaller Hispanic & Spanish language communities in this country any time soon!

If they are in Europe... they speak more than 1 language... if they are in america they speak typically 1... Deal with it....

He wasn't like QQ I can't understand who I play with. He was saying queue times went from runny shit to a decent clump of crap because they finally pooled more players together.

Vivo en América y español aprendido en el instituto. Supe que debería aprender más que inglés. Ich versuche auch, Deutsch zu lernen, Ich denke, dass Deutsch härter als spanisch ist. Good thing there are so many free translation tools availiable to help people learn and communicate. To this day I still have to check my Spanish grammar since I just don't use it everyday.

Yes but Americans have that overwhelming sense of self importance that places them outside of reality.

Seriously though - it's not a problem for you but you're complaining on behalf of other people? Let them complain for themselves

It decreases my winning chances since my teammates can't communicate. Not to mention that it has been said before on this board (think by littleburst): one of most important things in a BG is the team spirit. As soon as one starts to whine/qq in bg chat, your chances to win seem to decrease a lot. So you can imagine that all those other languages & the qq it results in do not contribute to a pleasant bg experience.

Don't people only talk crap in BG's anyway? I'm on an english speaking battlegroup and we can't discuss any tactics either :(

That was me indeed. I'm asuming this is something that'll change when cata hits, else it's gonna be really annoying indeed. Or Rated BG is going to fix it. I don't see how though. I'm asuming people will stay play unrated BG's.

Similar stupid thing is that you can't even play skirmish arena atm. Which I really don't understand either.

The chinese would all be called gold farmers and reported as afkers regardless of whether or not they were actively playing.

Back to the original issue though - I see your point and I hope it gets corrected/changed sometime soon. In the meantime create the BG tactics in 3 languages and spam them at the beginning of the matches. It might help a little. It can't hurt anyhow.

Would still be less than what the Aussies deal with.
