I'm a big fan of shadowed unit frames. Pitbull and x-perl one way or another just don't do it for me. So lately it was announced that SUF would not be updated for 4.0, means that I'm trying to find a decent replacement. The closest I came was Stuf Unit Frames. There is a fork of SUF called simplistic unit frames, but it's still very buggy and in early development stage. However I just read the news that 2 guys took over the 'official' shadowed unit frames project. So more updates to be expected soon.

Just felt like sharing for the fans. I'm going with basic stuf unit frames setup until shadowed is updated. Will do for time being.

yeah thats what I read as well.. I been using pitbull 4.0 and its cool, but it is not the same as SUF. Hopefully those two people that took over will do some amazing work :)

stuf was nice when I used it awhile ago, will have to check it out again

Quite a while back, I decided to move to custom unit frames, instead of the default.
Someone's video motivated me to switch.

When I looked at Pitbull 4.0, it was really lacking.
So I opted for Pitbull 3.x.

Definitely interested in the various unit frames.

For those interested: there are new alpha releases available on wowace (http://www.wowace.com/addons/shadowed-unit-frames/). To the right of your screen under 'recent files'. Mind you those are development versions, but so far I haven't come across a bug yet.

Oh, nice! I was under the impression that Simplistic Unit Frames was the "official" successor so I've been watching that for the last couple days.

Xperl is currently broken, so I might give this a try as well. How well does shadowed unit frames deal with pets?

what is so special about SUF?

I think it's a matter of personal preference. Whenever I tried to configure pitbull the default settings where either butt ugly, hurting my eyes, yelling at me or I got overwhelmed by the settings. If you are looking for a specific functionality, pitbull, x-perl and SUF might differ, but overall they do more or less the same. Over the course of a , lets say year, using it, I think it's matter of what you are used to.

First time I fired up SUF it felt very intuitive to me, and I was up & ready within minutes. Hence why I like to stick to it, the more cause the memory load seems to be very low. But then again, it's the same discussion as healbot vs grid vs vuhdo.

I really think the unit frame problem has gone on for a long enough time. Is there someone in the community that could address this issue. I think we could pull together some code from something like pitbull or shadow and make something that is our own. Maybe integrate into a module with Jamba.

I know this community has talent. Lets figure this out.

Gonna download it aswell. Always used pitbull3. But now it completely bugs out. The configuration of pitbull 4 is as annoying and complicated as possible. I tried, but i cba. Especially when you have to do it several times for each team.

So i'm wondering how SUF is configured :)

So i'm wondering how SUF is configured :)

pretty straightforward:

/suf
-> general for profiles and general border/textures, and to lock / unlock the frames to move them around
-> enable units to select which unit frames should be displayed, i go with player, target, target of target & party
-> unit configuration: configure player, target, etc
u find general, frame, bars etc are pretty self explaining, i think i spend most time tweaking my 'auras' and text/tags'
under aura i select only 'enable debuffs', 7 per row, 3 max row and 26 size, position is bottom, i have the same for the target, for the target of target i disable buffs/debuffs
my player / target unit both display health / mana or power
i have it set as: health - left bar = unit name & afk status ticked, right bar: cur/max hp (short),
power bar, left text = percent hp, right bar cur/max power short

I ment it in like, i'm gonna check SUF and see how that's configured. To see if it works for me.

Thanks for the effort :P

Shadowed UF seems to be the ideal replacement for ag_uf. I love it! Thanks for sharing ;-)

I loved SUF, it's best of both worlds: all the functionality of pitbull, without needing a masters degree to configure it.
