when your main dies

hey all long time since ive posted here, its taken me alittle while to get used to the new style of the forum, but not spending hours going over the forums has given me plenty of leveling time my team are now 35 and going strong.

my biggest problem is changeing my main character, ive tried a few different methods explained on the forums but not really found one that really works as tho your main was being swapped.

first of all i had a macro that simple moved the focus down the list of characters, the problem with this was that the new focus would instantly start targetting itself because of the target focus and assist focus, anyway was a nightmare.

so i decided to play about with it alittle, i set it up last night, when my main dies the next one on the list becomes focus, he will clear his focus target, and the spell list will change so that the set isnt all /assist focus macros.

still haveing loads of problems sometimes characters dont change or what ever its just a nightmare i dont really know what im doing wrong. so i was wondering if someone whos haveing no problems with there macros could share, ill copy and paste what macros im useing on all my clones. So maybe someone can see a mile off what im doing wrong.

With my setup, I can change leaders with 1 button press:

Step 1: Your Focus for ALL toons will be your current leader.

Step 2: You offensive macros will look like this --> /cast [target=focustarget] {offensive spell}

Step 3: Your defensive macros (Buffs, Heals) will look like this -->
/cast [target=player,modifier][target=focustarget,help,nodead][target=focus,help,nodead] {Buff/Heal Spell}

The conditions allow the following, in order of appearance:
The first condition makes it so that if you are holding down either CTRL, ALT or SHIFT, your character will perform the spell on themselves.
The second makes it so that it will heal your Focus's target, if that target is friendly, if the previous condition fails.
The third makes it so that it will heal your Focus, if all previous conditions fail (like you are not holding down a modifier, and your focus has a mob targetted).

Step 4: Set up (on ALL toons) F1-F5 with macros changing the focus.

EX: F1 is a macro on ALL toons with this script: /focus {Main toon's name}
F2 is a macro on ALL toons with this script: /focus {second toon's name}
Etc...

Step 5: Make your follow macro on ALL toons be /follow focus

If your main dies, and you don't need to reposition your alts, you can get away with retargetting the mob you want dead with the Main (cause he untargets when he dies) and continue to pound on your offensive spell macros.

If you need to reposition your alts, hit F2, activate the second toon's screen, press your follow macro, and away you go. Please note when you select a new focus, that focus must now target the mob you are wanting to kill. He would be acting exactly like your main at this point.

Im using Focus as my leader (/assist focus, /follow focus, etc.) and this keymaps:

* keymap for mswhite
NUMPAD1 -> white
NUMPAD2 -> blue
NUMPAD3 -> pink
F12 -> white

* keymap for msblue
NUMPAD1 -> white
NUMPAD2 -> blue
NUMPAD3 -> pink
F12 -> blue

* keymap for mspink
NUMPAD1 -> white
NUMPAD2 -> blue
NUMPAD3 -> pink
F12 -> pink

My macros looks like that:
num1 (/focus white)
num2 (/focus blue)
num3 (/focus pink)
F12 (/clearfocus)

How it works? When i hit F12 all 'inactive' characters focus 'active' charater so when i am dead/polly/dc/whatever i can just
chose other window, hit F12 and play :)
ps. im playing 5 chars but u can see how this works on three :)

So you are saying "/assist focus" doesn't work if you have yourself focused?

Just a clarification as well, all these main switching strategies imply that you will be "driving" from your new main's WoW window if you are running multiple sessions on the same box. You won't be using your normal main WoW window.

With my above method, unless you are required to move your Alts or change facing, etc, you can use your Main's WoW Window even after he is dead, but simply retargetting the mob you want killed after the Main dies. Your Alts will continue nuking it (or whatever you have your hotkeys set as).

thanks for the feedback guys, i took alot in from what you had to say lokked and sekij, ive rewritten it alittle to fit in alot better for my needs but working well, no major problems so far, i had it in mind to take it and try it out in SM lib, but outside was a group of flagged alliance so i couldnt resist attacking them till some 70 paladin showed up and decided to camp me it was all fun :)
