Waiting till Black Friday to upgrade my bro's comp to ddr3
He currently has Vista, 2 gigs of ddr2 ram, my old 8800 gts.

I have a bunch of old 1gig ddr2 ram lying around.
Is it worth the $60/70 to buy a mobo with 4x240 pin slots so he can have a total of 4 gigs for 2-3 months?

oh and where do you guys buy your fans at?
any specific supplied that does outstanding LED fans?

4 Gigs is significanlty better than 2 for boxing. It's based on how rich or poor you are and how much you play if $70 bucks is worth it to you for 3 months. I guess it would be to me since I'm blowing $150/mo on this game anyway ;-p

For fans, Yate Loons are considered really good price/performance. You can find the non-LED ones for as low as $3 each in bulk at some sites.

How much of a performance increase would he find?

OH! and I forgot to ask this in my thread.
Are there any other cooling parts that I need besides case fans?
Hook it up with the links (cpu fan, heatsink, etc)!

P.S whats the size of the fan on the heatsink cpu? 120mm?

The size depends on what cpu you talking about. From reading what you've posted so far i have no idea what cpu you have, good comprehensive reviews on heatsinks can be found at http://www.silentpcreview.com/Recommended_Heatsinks

I advise you invest in a decent case (not necessary only if you got spare cash lying around), i use the coolmaster cosmos S case and with just fans it keeps my pc cool when overclocked.

What MB does he have now that won't take 4 sticks of RAM? Surprised it takes DDR2 if it only has 2 slots

oh, its an old stock board. there are only 2 slots on it while there are a million of ddr2 ram scattered across my room.
