So this week, I finally broke down and upgraded my XP gaming boxes to Win7. No complaints except for Octopus. For some weird reason, when I moved from XP to Win7 (clean install, not upgrade), I lost the ability to do mouse edge transitions to my 2nd PC. Keys go across just fine; it's only the mouse wrapping (configured under Server-> KM).
It worked fine with Win7 on my main box and XP on my alt box.
Same config file as before, and I've even recreated the screen links from scratch with no improvement.
Tried turning off firewall on both boxes with no effect.
Both are set to allow them to get through the firewall when it's on.
Input Director works just fine for KM control.
So I just got my laptop out (Win7 also) and tried it. I can connect to both of my game desktops using the laptop as the server and mouseover works like a champ. Figure that one out.
I'm going to bed. Maybe I'll have an epiphany in my sleep. :p

Don't know anything about the app, only thought is, running the app as administrator?

Yes, I'm running it in admin mode. I can't for the life of me figure out why my laptop can control both gaming desktops fine but the gaming desktops won't talk to each other correctly.

sounds like a firewall issue with outgoing packets.... maybe download wireshark and see if the packets are being sent. good luck

Bah. Fixed. Apparently, I inadvertently checked the "Windows XP SP3" box in the compatibility tab instead of just "Run as Admin." Obviously, XP compatibility does something strange to network-aware apps that some like and some don't.
Anyway...we now return you to your regularly scheduled instance runs....

Just a final update: apparently, there are basically three things to remember when running Octopus under Win7.
Run it in Administrator mode.
Don't check the compatibility box for WinXP or Win2k, etc., just the "Run this program as Administrator" only.
Run it from a folder that doesn't have quirky access permissions. I was running mine from c:\games\Octopus and it kept crashing on me. Copied the Octopus folder to the desktop and it seems to have fixed the last bug.
