5xProt Palies

I did BRC yesterday on Beta and the port paly from my raiding guild tanked for us. He was doing almost as much DPS as everyone else.. including the ret pal that was there ( both palies are in our guild on live .. almost full 277 gear ) Now part of it was that the dps ( me, the ret and the two pugs ) were all just trying our cata abilities for the first time.. so our lower dps was, in part, due to not performing optimal rotations. But the prot paly was doing close to 5k dps.

I'm thinking 5 prot palies in Cata will be a good choice for PvP. they will not do as much dps as ret.. but not far behind it seems. And I'm sure it will get toned down a bit, but Bliz has said they want all tanks to do much better DPS than they do now.

Wish I could 5box in beta 8( to test it out.

Any of you play a prot paly in beta? what do you think about this idea?

Dmg numbers are not tuned atm. Also prot loses cleanse in cata. I know for sure that prot and ret lose the magic dispel part of cleanse for sure. You will be kited till next tuesday without a dispel or healer to dispel.

With that said I would imagine with prot having 150k+ health each that being kited is not that big of a deal anymore. ymmv


edit: I could see pallys being OP at the beginning of cata, then nerf a few months later. Kinda like DKs were in s5, in a sense pallies are kinda like a brand new class.I guess the same argument could be made for hunters too. I am rambling now blah

kited to hell is somewhat true, but if you spec for pvp you have a pretty high uptime on blessing of freedom, and your bubble /shrug. Time will tell

you would also spec into the talent that make your jugment hit for 30+ yards? ( Improoved judgements )

I believe prot pallies just would get oom too fast, if they would get kited and / or wont get damage and heal.

they are taking the snare out of Avenging Shield too.

Prot pallies can only do damage when they are taking damage, otherwise they run OOM in seconds. My Pve Tank does a ton of damage too, but not so much if someone pulls aggro.
