So i just started out with a few shamans and i already got the attacking down and stuff but was wondering how do you guys heal whether it's with a pally, priest, doesn't matter.
I just want to try out different macro setups so i can heal more efficiently

What i had setup as a macro on my shamans was

/target Name
/cast healing wave

so that when i pressed the hotkey they would all heal themselves. but i found it unnecessary to heal some of my characters when they did not need it.

**oh and is there a way to setup the macro so that if my health is xx-xx it does lightning shock and if it is xx-xx heals?
because yeah i know about modifiers but then i will still be healing some characters that don't need it.

...so in conclusion i would really like to know more about how you macros are setup for healing. =D

I don't know what software you use but I use ISBoxer and heal with Repeater Regions + VuhDo. VuhDo is an addon that creates scalable, movable party frames that you can click to cast spells on the target (left click, right click, shift click, etc, it's programmable) and Repeater Regions are just like they sound. I put my mouse on a specific region (where my VuhDu frames are) on my main and that region is repeated onto my healer. Much easier and more efficient than macro healing.

I have some healing macros on my blog from the olden days, I think. http://coltimar.com/blog if you want to check them out.

I have a dedicated healer at the moment for running instances.
I use a castsequence macro for basic healing of my tank for a slow steady heal (hots from a druid). This happens as I'm spamming my number keys to attack etc.
Beyond that
button to cast wild growth on self, this is for healing up the rest of the team
A button for oh $hit heals on tank to top him up. Swift mend and natures swiftness etc.

And for specific healing I use repeater Regions and Grid/clique, very similar to how Coltimar is doing it.

Probably only 20% of the healing I do is with the mouse repeater region.

When I was leveling I simply had two macro's, Heal tank and heal self (all the toons could heal).

I would think that one of the main reasons boxers play shaman is to use chain heal and not healing wave.

Too bad we don't get chain heal at lvl 1. :)

I prefer shaman for healing because there are fewer tools (than a priest) and I can fit them all on my mouse. That makes my healing easier to manage. Less spells to remember= less mistakes by the silly human.

Well doh .... well single target healing is a real pain, sry can't be any help I just have 10-20 shaman cast chain heal and thats it for me.

I have read that one way is the repeater regions and vuduh as suggested is a good solution. The was a post by jafula or lax about this problem let me try and find it.

Ok here is all the infos you need:

Another solution for using a dedicated healer in a 5 man team is to have separate buttons for healing each character, which is a nice solution for those running without the mouse broadcasting of ISBoxer.

For example in my setup, my healer casts heals on the following targets when i hit the corresponding buttons (those buttons are empty on the other characters, generally):

3: Heal the Paladin tank
4: Heal the Boomkin
5: Heal the Shaman
6: Heal the Mage
7: Heal the Priest healer

The order of the characters is just the order in which my paladin sees them in the party frames.

^^ This is how I ran my team when I started. I used the Xkeys with the heals going top to bottom for each character. 2 rows of heals for LHW and HW. I mainly used the LHW in 5 mans. I did make a chain heal macro and 2 chains go to the tank and the others on the dps. It worked well.

Everyone has their own way of doing things. I kinda like only 1 heal button. I also HATE targeting anything, so I put the in the options who should get the casts.
I like to heal whoever is getting beatten on. For my hunters (5 hunters and 5 pets), I can put GotN on whoever is taking the most damage, without using 10 buttons. For my locks (4 locks, 4 pets, 1 spriest), I can heal whoever is "tanking" at the moment with 1 button. No thinking, no worries, just heals. It also works for me to heal whoever is getting beat on in BG's. You wouldn't want 35 buttons to heal other people.

/castsequence [@focus-target-target] reset=target/combat/12 TinyHeal, SmallHeal, BigHeal, OMGHeal
I focus my main, then whoever is getting beatten on by the mob my main is targeting gets healed slowly, then bigger. So if I just need tiny heals, I press it once, if I need more, press it more.
You can add in the same macro to do different things.

/cast [@TankChar, nocombat] Earth Shield
/castsequence [@focus-target, help] reset=target/combat/12 Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave, Healing Wave
/castsequence [@focus-target-target] reset=target/combat/12 Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave, Healing Wave

If out of combat (right before a pull), you can put earthshield on your "tank". You can heal whoever your main is targeting (in case of a specific person getting hurt even if no one is beating on it). You can heal whoever is getting beaten on. All in one button, no thinking, nothing.

One nice thing about shammies is healing stream totems stack, so you can most times just put down mostly healing and 1 mana (mana doesn't stack) and you won't need much more than a lesser healing every so often. You can also stagger your heals from people so you can get less or more from everyone or just your resto. So if you LHW from 2 people instead of 1, you get a stronger heal, but share the workload over people.

Char 1:
/castsequence [@focus-target-target] reset=target Lesser Healing Wave, , , ,
Char 2:
/castsequence [@focus-target-target] reset=target , Lesser Healing Wave, , ,
Char 3:
/castsequence [@focus-target-target] reset=target Lesser Healing Wave, , , ,
Char 4:
/castsequence [@focus-target-target] reset=target , Lesser Healing Wave, , ,

Just my 2 copper.

/cast [@TankChar, nocombat] Earth Shield
/castsequence [@focus-target, help] reset=target/combat/12 Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave, Healing Wave
/castsequence [@focus-target-target] reset=target/combat/12 Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave, Healing Wave

That's gold. Much better than my setup. Pity we can't have a heal the targets mouseover :P
