LOL, ya right, ok how about your Cataclysm Day 2 plans? Well I have some observations that may change what you do.

1. The beginning zones for leveling to 85 for Cata has some SERIOUSLY awful quests. MH has a few that are just stupid tedious:
A. Looking at ground for parts of a staff that have a long respawn and a really really small glitter animation next to a glittery river! AWESOMEx5! Oh and you need to pick up 8 of them. OH YAY!!!
B. Target a fire spawn and use item then AOE the adds down. Sounds simple right? Welp, no not really. Respawn is nowhere near what it needs to be to handle the influx of players ( this area screams PvP all out war and ganking) and there are only a few spawn points.
C. I found a lot of collection quests in MH, one so annoying I had to take a break halfway through (click the cute fuzzy squirrels before they dodge your mouse click. SO MUCH FUN!)
These two quests are just the ones I remember off the top of my head. Some parts of it is fixable and some is not. Overall I think the quest hub ideas is neat, but it guarantees that everyone will be in the same area come server respawn. Also it makes the zones seem really small, even though they are not.

What I suggest for those of you boxing alliance side: Level a worgen team with heirloom gear. There is a bunch of easy quests and very few collection quests for a long while. I can't speak for goblins, because I havent leveled one yet. Also make sure you use a class that has instant cast spells/abilities because everywhere will be a gankfest.

Once I level a team of worgens for a week or so I will get to leveling my main team and hopefully the starting zones won't be so ugly as day 1/2.

^^ This. I spent a month doing dailies for mounts before I upgraded to wrath. I will probably stay a while in northrend this time also.

So the first few days of cata will be business as usual in northrend.

Depending on launch day I may take some time off to play.. I'll probably be using the LFD tool to do instances for my levels.

Take a few days off work and see what happens.

May solo-level my rogue to get a feel for the zones/quests, make the collection quests a bit more managable to start.

Or I may start a team of Goblin warrior (:o) and start levelling them (the only class I don't have 5 of)

Or I may start on a new server and make some Worgens, but who knows :D

I'll get the xpac, install it and resume grinding 10 mans by day and I'll start gathering in Azeroth by night for a few weeks.

just curious, in Wotlk they did 2 starting zones (HF and BT) to reduce the impact of levelling players.
Is it only 1 in Cata? or are there new zones on, say, Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms?

I play offpeak hours (australian on US server) so i'm less impacted, but in any case i'll probably take a day off or two, or tryand finish my pre-cata goals :p

Cata will still be there a day later, when all the [SERVER FIRST] achievement spam is done :-)

I'm all about instances. So if they havent broken everything for boxers, I'll be hitting the first instances.

Lots of things planned for Cataclysm launch week, none of which include trying to play during the first few days crush of mouthbreathers.

InnerSpace works with the current beta build of Cataclysm. Lax is in the beta as well so any changes that would pop up would be taken care of in a timely manner I'm sure.

Same thing here. I've done canceled out my slaves due to $$ this summer, but also so I could prepare my main tank for the upcoming events preceding Cata. So far I've been practicing my skills at heroics and so far doin pretty good. Took down HHoR on my 2nd try with just my main in a pug. Haven't tried it with the slaves yet cause I couldn't make it past Garfrost, but my gear now is a hell of alot better now. Once I get the extra time/money, I'll pick them back up again. Might wait till I can get the xp on all of them tho, but not sure just yet.

I will upgrade two accounts to start, then explore old world, level a new class or two and just enjoy all the newness. What's the rush? I might be the only one not burned out on LK yet, have not finished all the Heroics with a team.

I'm in the last stages of my CCIE studies, so not sure if I have the time to play. I've been cold turkey WoW for approximately 7 months.

Good luck! I had my CCNP and CCDP back in 2001. I passed the CCIE written but failed my only attempt at the CCIE lab (this was when it was two days - I didn't make it to day two). But after getting laid off a couple of times in the network engineering field I switched to finance and haven't looked back (I now work for an asset manager where I develop investment strategies for large corporations). I still have some friends in the tech field, one of which just started with Cisco TAC (I think that's what it's called).

Good times :)

So when the pre-patch comes out before Cata, will it enable flying in the old world? If so I am thinking that might be a time to go gathering?
As for leveling, I am sure we can all squeeze a few levels out of the current dungeons without setting foot in the new areas?
Personally I most likely will only start to level one toon and later if/when I want to start boxing dungeons I will get the rest of the teams leveled. Those collection quests seem very unfriendly to boxers and with the dungeons being changed to more CC and also possible movement intense, I am not sure if I will multibox in the expansion.

I'm taking my shamans to the most crowded area and then START BLASTING. The first few weeks of expansions are the world pvp *magical* moments. Soon after that everyone will be sitting in towns never needing to leave. (that's when I start attacking the towns haha)

It does make me wish I was on a PvP server. I bet it would be pretty damn fun to just have organized world PvP during that first week - screw leveling, this is your chance to kill the opposite faction and cause mass frustration!

Sounds like a plan.

I'm not sure yet what i'm gonna do, probably a balance between BG, Dungeons (with 2nd player tanking i think) and some questing. Depends a bit on exp gained in BG, but if that's any good i might actually try and premade some to guarantee fast wins.

Like others, I am only running a single toon right now. I plan to quest with friends to avoid ganking. I also plan to run the dailies in Northrend as well. They should give xp again when you are not level capped. Also SBJones is geared out pretty good so I will be LFD as soon and as much as I can. The play mechanics for paladin tanks are going to be way different from the way they are now so i'll need to practice up.

There are two starting zones Mount Hyjal and Vashj'ir

I used IWT and CTM for those and it was easy stuff. i LOVED Hyjal quests! I think the flow is nice but also agree that it forces everyone to be in the same area.

IWT doesn't make the quest any easier. I'm talking solo, so boxing is guaranteed to be more tedious. I've just finished the starting area for worgen (up to when you take the portal to darkshore) and it's pretty fantastic and almost devoid of collection quests. Perfect for boxers.

When they revamped the starting zones back in the day it seems that all collection quests drop 100% of the time. I can at least confirm Northshire Abbey as I've just started a fresh team with no RAF. Folks in beta are reporting the collection quest drop rates to have been greatly increased [almost 100% drop rate], we can only hope this isn't "just a beta thing" and that it goes live with the expansion. Also have my fingers crossed that it finds it way into the revamped Azeroth, as well as Outland and Northrend, quest lines.

it's a step in the right direction, but it still needs to be something everyone in group can loot.

Like Multibocks said, it's going down the right path. However, this has no more impact on multiboxers than it did on singleboxers. I will still take us 5x the amount of kills, just like before. The variance is lower, which is nice, but we don't gain in efficiency like pure kill quests.

They have done this on some quests in LK, I TOTALLY agree that this would be great in Cata. This not only affects boxers but also people playing in a group which it seems could be popular on PvP servers at launch to avoid ganking.
