First question, Can you run 2 8800GTs non SLI and run 4 monitors, 2nd question will Keyclone send clients the 2nd cards monitors. I know it will do the primary card, but even if you can run quad monitors does it support that?

Thank you

hi Stigian and welcome to the forums!

afaik, windows will report each display and it coordinates independent of the number of graphcis cards you have install. theoretically, winxp and vista can support 10 monitors at once.

to have keyclone send the window to the appropriate display, select the display id in the maximizer panel

if you try the dual graphics cards, let us know how it goes. (and remember to have a good power supply for the cards)

I have been looking at a 700-750 watt Thermaltake Toughpower. I currently own an Antec 550w, but for 2 cards and future upgrades I wanted to have a large watt power supply. Should I go larger than 750?

Thanks for the welcome!

Probably. An 8800GT can draw upto 250 watts under peak load. Two of them working seperately, and I guess 400 wouldn't be unreasonable, combined with a good motherboard and a couple of Hard Drives, you could easily get to 750 watts.

The key with the 8800GT is to have a good +12V Rail. Ideally you need around 24 Amps per +12V rail, then power each Graphics card from a seperate rail.

The only way to be sure is to buy a massively powerful PSU :-D

Personally I find this (http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp) to be extremely useful when deciding on a Power supply.

Welp, my time draws near.

This friday is when I am ordering my setup. I've changed to 1x 8800GTS (G92) 512MB and 1x7800GT OC (my current card). I figured I wouldn't really need to upgrade it since it will be running the smaller clients. If it does not prove to be fast enough I'll get another 8800GTS. I plan to get the e8400 unless there is a definitive reason to get a quad core for my 5-client setup. I'm getting a 850watt Thermaltake PS, and a Zalman 9700LED CPU cooler all on a EVGA 780i (wish I could wait for the 790i), a 226BW 22" Samsung monitor will be a nice addition as well, hopefully all landing in my house next week around Wednesday.

Wish me luck with my setup!

Any input about dual core vs quad would be nice.

quad core for sure, if you can afford the extra cash. Why? because its the new technology and its the best!

Get the quad core. Its far better and it overclocks exceptionally well.

Not too huge a diffrence in price either.

I have 2 8800GTXs on a 750 W PC Power & Cooling power supply, and I've had no issues. We'll see what happens when I slap in the quad proc that just came in the mail today :)

Well, Hello all!

I'm back with my story now that I have my new stuff up and running.

My new setup.

1x 22" Samsung 226BW
ThermalTake Tsunami Dream Case (although I recommend a case with side slide in harddrive bays)
ThermalTake 850w PS
EVGA 780i Motherboard
Intel Q6600 OC'd to 3.2Ghz with a Zalman 9700 LED cooler
1x 750Gb WD HD
1x 250GB WD HD
2x 2GB Corsair XMS2 memory (OC'd 899Mhz 5-5-5-12 )
1x EVGA 8800 GTS G92 512MB card (OC'd to 770Mhz Core and 2086Mhz memory)

This PC runs 5 wow accounts FLAWLESSLY. I use a program called Set Affinity ('http://www.geocities.com/edgemeal_software/SetAffinity/index.htm') to autoset the wow clients to use all 4 cores. I use 2 displays, I have them set for dual display, but after reading some posts !!on this GREAT SITE  !! I will be changing to horizontal span.

i MIGHT even break down and install Vista, since it handles more than 1 Video card better. Although my wifes PC is more than capable of running multi clients, once the connection bug gets fixed or I find out whats breaking my connection between my 2 keyclone boxes I will use hers and mine together.

I wish you all the best, and thank you for your help. Now i just need to learn to play 5 clients, so far setting up the keys is my current project. I have 5 lvl 70 druids already, just need to figure out a spec and go with it.

Take Care!

OMG!! Tell me more! I want to know! My plan is to get a 2nd 8800GTS G92 so I can have SLI when I want, and 4x monitors when I want. Do tell!! I am really REALLY glad I followed Opt and Wilbur's advice and got the quad, its a monster!

...

Hmmmm, last night I started 5 toons on Magtheridon, was happily setting up my macro's, etc. Fired up keyclone on both comps and bam, they would not connect to each other. Sounds for override, etc. worked on one but not on my main. I started uninstalling junk and worried I got a keylogger or something from a rogue chest run video I watched earlier in the day. After 2-1/2 hours I couldn't take it anymore and went to sleep.

This morning I had the same problem and decided to cut and paste my keyclone.ini out of it's folder and then keyclone override properly triggered sound, still would not connect to my other pc so I shut down keyclone there, cut & pasted the keyclone.ini somewhere else and it too then worked correctly and both communicated just fine.

What's weird is the ini's were perfectly readable in notepad. Maybe doing the same might help you, if you try it and it works please let me know. I was going to PM keyclone and let him know what I ran into but I wasn't sure if installing the .NET 3.5 stuff for Octopus earlier in the day did something to affect the .ini or if it was just isolated to keyclone itself.

keyclones disconnecting is very odd... but you are not the first person to mention they also run octopus (why??)... checking the page, octopus does somethign with injecting packets into the stream... this is very bad territory as far as blizzard and many other games would be concerned

i would recommend not running/uninstall octopus (the page also mentioned that octopus installs a mouse driver... another very bad area... and cause for many BSOD)

then reboot... uncheck the override overlay... and see what happens.

please drop me a PM with the results

please drop me a PM with the resultsActually I did not ever run Octopus, I had installed the 2 requirements in anticipating running Octopus. I felt they were safe since they were downloaded from MS. Those two components are still installed on my second box and it's fine, just somehow both keyclone.ini's got corrupted or misconfigured in a way that I could not tell so that after removing them from the keyclone folder it ran perfectly fine. Set up my do-not pass keystrokes again and all was good. I don't use keylcone in a complex way yet.

If I read the tutorial correctly Octopus does not install the driver you are referring to by default, it is an optional mouse filter driver and I had no interest in it anyway.

As to why my interest in Octopus...since you asked...[edited out my dumb rant, been tired, frustrated and overwhelmed with all these new things to consider]...I wanted to try Octopus because 1) it's open source, 2) I don't care for or like that keyclone is not permanently licensed on my computer once I purchase it and it makes an outside connection every time I start it up (the way this works was not obvious when I purchased but since you have a good reputation here is the only reason I continue to use it). I hope you will give alternative licensing schemes some thought in the future, it's a big issue for me.

I wasn't too thrilled to find out that Keyclone would not function if I blocked it with my firewall. I would also prefer a way to license it that did not require it to "phone home" everytime I start it up. And like you, I based my trust of the program on its popularity here. I am however pretty happy with the functionality of Keyclone.

I can't say I disagree with the phoning home part but I have not tested KC personally either, being a hardware only boxer. Therefore, I don't use KC although I see its utility. I would prefer it not phone home either.... but are you sure it is phoning home (out to the Internet) and not simply trying to connect to itself - it after all is server client based, is it not?

I can understand trying to prevent theft and unpaid use but there's got to be a better way. I own Vegas and the only time it requires to phone home is during initial installation when I've wiped my system and reloaded everything. Beyond that it happily runs after I block it. Other software I have purchased also follows that same method. Keyclone works well when it works and it's easy to get started with it. The recent disconnect problem I'm sure will get fixed.

Last night I did get Octopus running and am still learning the ins and outs of it by playing around with it. A few things I don't understand about it yet but I'm sure I will eventually.

In the end I would really rather hardware multi box but right now after pricing everything I don't think I could swing it until 2009 and don't really want to build halfway clone machines that I'm not going to really be happy with.

The Q6600 is giving me no problems so far. It was suprisingly easy to install. I was dreading having to remove my aftermarket CPU cooler, which requires forceful screwing into the mobo, but it was a lot easier than when I first installed it and didn't know wtf I was doing.

Once I got the Q6600 up I was originally pulling a comfortable 60 fps on my main with 4 clones running at 15 in the background. I changed my directory setup though, and I think I may have hurt myself by moving each clone to a separate directory. My fps was down to 45ish, and I was getting runaways on the last clone. I'll have to play with it and see if some mklink magic (single physical location) can fix the problem.

Next project is to add a 3rd GPU and 3rd monitor. I hope the wiring in my apartment can take it!
