currently using 5 affliction warlocks while leveling (level 24) thinking of switching lock 1 out for my druid at 80.
would this be a strong comp for pvp?

I tried this for awhile, but missed the big crits. Instead you get lots of people dying "slowly". Not commenting on the viability, as I'm sure it's fine if played right, but it didn't satisfy my playing preferences.

yeah i know what you mean i have 3 shamans at 68
cant exactly level 2 more shamans to 60 unless i get a friend to power level them
considering my accounts are linked weird
1>3/5 2>4 lol shamans are on 1,2,3
Owltoid are you Lolsmite on Tinychat for cynicalbrit.com?
so wondering what team would work best
4 warlock, 1 resto druid
4 shaman 1 resto druid
5 shaman
either way i have on my main acc mage (frost) druid(heals) shaman (ele) lock (aff)
and on the other accounts shamans and locks

Hots and Dots would be a cool name, in case you go through with it. I dont know how viable, are you talking arena or bgs?

My alternate (horde) team is rather low.. probably close to your current team.
I did not have Holy Nova yet on the Priest (Disc Priest & 4x Affliction Warlocks), which made it a tad harder to heal up the team. The basic premise is that a Disc Priest or a Resto Druid are serious pains in the asses to kill in pvp.
I'm sure with all of the relevant tools, the healer will add a lot to the team. Whether it's the priest or the druid, they have tools for mobile healing. Should one die, they also have the option to Rez the fallen. Four warlocks is nearly as nasty as five, and in Cataclysm you'll be able to Moonfire/InsectSwarm or Shadow Word:Pain/OtherPriestDot from the healing form.
The fifth warlock gets you an extra curse, and an extra of each of the dots. Possibly an extra pet. It makes your macros a little less complicated, as you can have everyone use the same spells on each hotkey. No one is the obvious focus as everyone is the same.
So it depends on what you want the most. Healing and recovery. Or additional firepower, easier macros and no one to be focused on.
I went with the healer, but five warlocks is certainly decent as an option. I was envisioning the team for battlegrounds, rated battlegrounds, Wintergrasp or the equivalent and a bit of world PvP.

I would consider a shadow priest (Mind flay, fast fear bombs, silence, fort/spirit buff, fear ward)

I don't think it'll be very viable higher up in arena, unless you manage to do some insane CC on healers. But because you somewhat lack burst and you can assist your healer only with Fear/deacthcoil/(seduce) and you rely on dots for damage, which isn't exactly good burst.
I would suggest to try destro in arena, shadowfury -> burst should be pretty devastating.

I remember Asonimie posting something like this.
He wanted the warlocks to run as either Demo or Destro initially, until they reached a spell power point. Not sure what the number would be in today's arena or battlegrounds, or what that number will be in Cataclsym. I believe he wanted 2900SP when he posted.
The idea being, with that amount of spell power, in 1-2 globals, the target will die from instant cast dots alone. So the tactic is to apply the dots and then fear the healer, or something similar. With enough spell power, the target is dead in the duration of the fear. Without enough spell power, you're not going to beat a decent healer who is focusing on keeping your target alive.
In battlegrounds, most of the time healers won't be nearly as focused as they are in arena, and it will be much easier to take targets out. So depends on the medium of play and your goals with the team. In the current game, arena is worthwhile as that is the best rewards -- even if you just lose your 10 games (trying to win, to improve your skill) each week; in Cataclsym, with the best rewards from BG's or Arena, you might be better served by just doing rated BG's.

One thing to remember is that you will need others to fill in your group to queue. If you playing 5 and plan on playing wsg, well you need to find 5 others willing to play with you. Something to think about when making a rated BG team.
I am sure that there are a few here that did the grind for HW/GM. I only made it to General (on a character I dont even play anymore lol) and premade vs premade were 95% of the time a stalemate in WSG at least. If it was not pre vs pre we steamrolled the pugs in 5-6 min in wsg and AB. I dont see it changing a bunch- steamrolls or stalemates.
Edit: What I could see happening is the same thing we did way back when. You queue with your premade and then if you get matched against a tough team(stalemate) you leave only to queue up again to steamroll pugs. Once you get to higher ratings you could go head to head against the tougher team for bragging rights or something. I dont think there will be a deserter debuff for afking out and you dont lose rating for losing until you get higher.

For the rated BG's, they said it would be your best "x" games for the week, for points. So people would not feel the need to play an enormous amount to be competitive. And that it would be impossible to lose rating in a rated BG.
So they need to (probably already have) develop a system, where your best 10 or 20 games per week equate to about the pace of points earnt by a decent/good team in arena, so both avenues of play have roughly the same potential.
I'm sure if I were to play 500 rated BG's in a week, and had say my top 10 games count... they might all be 5 cap AB wins. Even if I were to lose 350 of the 500 games played. I'm just picking numbers here.

You need to re check your facts Ualaa.
They said you can lose points once you reach a high enough rating. That rating has yet to be determined.
Please re check you best x games for the week as that is also incorrect.
If need I will post source. However, its beta and I am sure things will change.
Also, people who think you will get the best items from rated bgs the same as arenas, well its true atm, however, they said that it will take people "quite a bit of time" while the people who win quickly will achieve the best pvp much sooner. There is also a cap on the points you can receive via rated bgs. Again that cap has yet to be determined.
Edit: The best pvp weapons items will not be available to everyone.
As an update to the original announcement, there will be two tiers of PvP weapons in Cataclysm. The lower tier weapons will correspond in quality to items found in the latest raid tier on normal difficulty and cost only Conquest Points. The higher tier weapons will correspond in quality to items found in the latest raid tier on Heroic difficulty and will have a minimum personal rating requirement in addition to costing Conquest Points. All of the highest-stat PvP armor, including shoulder and head pieces, will cost only Conquest Points and have no rating requirements. We have updated our original announcement text to reflect this clarification.
