I have fraps set to record at that 29.97 FPS option and that usually keeps my FPS at 60 whenever I am recording WoW. However, whenever there are a lot of NPCS on screen it will drop to 30 and stay there until I zone out or stop recording. Is there an option to disable this lock somewhere in Fraps?

Yes. Movies tab, "Video Capture Settings", set your fps to whatever, uncheck "lock framerate".

I have a machine capable of running WoW at 60 FPS almost all of the time playing a single instance of the game. When recording with FRAPS my FPS is always 29, that's how this video capture software works. If I uncheck "Lock Framerate" the only thing it does for me is make my FPS bounce around from the 30's and 40's back down to 29. I personally don't like my FPS bouncing around like that [because it can mess with my timing] so I always lock it.

That's weird, I've noticed slowdown while recording, but it never really bothered me that much. Never paid attention to exactly what fps I was getting. FRAPs very well may reduce it to 30fps.....

Yea, I unchecked lock framerate and i will stay at 60 FPS until I switch screens to a different character or until theres a lot of stuff going on on the screen. After that, it will lower itself to 30 and lock itself there no matter what until I stop recording =/
