As my sig notes I growl menacingly at people...
I want to have a macro that on press will have both my characters target a single mob/player and emote at them. Assist doesn't work unless its a mob, and I really don't want to assist/attack a level 70 quite yet :D

I personally find that using 'focus' on the main character is a waste, since the alt(s) are not performing many actions on the main character usually except for follow. I have a 'focus' button that sets the target of my clone binded to F1, so i can press it, and then the /hi emote macro. It's actually very creepy having many clones emoting at the same time.

Turn off attack on assist?
/focus player1target
/target focus
/growl

If you use your main as your focus:
/target focustarget
/growl
Or you could try:
/growl [target=focustarget]
but iono if that's gonna do anything :p

I'll try Lokked's suggestions they come closest to what I was thinking, thanks all.

Set your main as your focus..
/target focustarget
/emote
Your clones will all emote at whatever target your main has.

Assist doesn't work unless its a mobThis is absolutely untrue. I use my standard attack cast macro to target friendly people/NPCs all the time. As someone else mentioned, it may have something to do with the attack on assist thingy.

As someone else mentioned, it may have something to do with the attack on assist thingy.I tried this before posting (originally, patch day now so can't test any new options.... :(), if I targeted a friendly player with my main, then assisted my main with my alt I ended up with my main as my target. I only got the target of my main when the target is hostile/neutral/enemy player. I have attack on assist switched off, I always assist then cast or assist then start attack. (Means you don't accidentally attack that wandering level 70).
