It's bothered me that blizzard rewards people for grouping up in all areas of WoW except one, leveling. I've done two expansions now boxing and solo leveling thru all of WoW. Solo I can quest level in about 2/3rd the time it takes to do a team.
One: kill exp is substantially higher. Yes a group kills faster, but mob density limits kill speed. A group just has to do a lot more running to even compete.
Two: collection quests fucking suck as a group. Sometimes they will let everyone loot the item, but typically it's one loot per kill.
Now as I see Cataclysm coming closer I'm excited to level my first group, but honestly I don't look forward to the groups after that. I'm not in beta now, so these issues could be fixed already, but I doubt it.
To prevent exploitation they could implement a timer that reduces xp gain based on your kill rate. The other issue I just don't see much exploitation occurring.
The positives of this for non boxers is that friends can level together and not feel like they are dragging each other down. Thoughts?

This would be a beneficial change for the player base in general, and for us boxers too. As it sits, people are at a disadvantage to play with their friends during the level up process of the game. Which seems wrong, when you consider the nature of the game.

The blizz response will be "we don't require you to group to level. We only require groups for difficult elite quests and then you are rewarded with that shiney new blue."
Of course instances will be the same argument, you get rewards for grouping when you down bosses.
I have outfitted 2 teams with Heirlooms to help speed up leveling. Although the heirlooms don't help when trying to break into a new server. :(

I agree, this leveling aspect of the game takes away from the social part of the game. I support this suggestion.

I listed this in my account closing reasons. I requested that they make it so every collection quest drops one item per party member when an item drops. That would take most of the sting out of collection quests for boxers IMO.

As a suggestion, on the suggestion forums, this is quite worthwhile. Blues basically never respond to anything there, but they have people who read it all.
The response for... we don't require grouping to level, might be what you receive from a direct communication, such as a ticket.

That's a pretty solid idea imo.

truth on no replies on suggestion forums. A month ago i posted a suggestion, can't recall it anymore. But i browsed back to the latest blue reply. I don't recall it exactly, but i thought it was like 2 years ago and it was an off topic reply.

They need more places with higher mob density or purhaps adjust density based upon total of players in a spicific area.
Can't wait to get to the Icecrown "tables" and getting that level 80 mobs exp!

I just got invited to Beta last week.
They only allow you to go to level 83 in the beta, and there are basically two zones you can choose to start your leveling process in for quests.
There are a couple of very frustrating quests where there weren't enough mobs for the number of people trying to do the quest (under water zone - kill 8 sea serpents, so it would work for a group quest fine), but the problem was there were only 6 total sea serpents in the area and about 5 people trying to do the quest at the same time and the respawn rate was about 5 minutes.
I did put a ticket in on it since we WANT kill quests for us boxers, but looking forward toward this the first day of Cata will be a nightmare --- maybe even the first few weeks.
The good news is that I leveled from 80-81.5 in about 4 hours.

All collection quests in cata are 100% drops. At least in the new zones from my experiences.

Yes but do they drop for everyone in a group?

I haven't checked. But technically killing 5x faster with 100% drop rate quests is the same as a kill quest in old school nagrand, nothing to complain about imo.

No, not really. You're still limited to mobs spawning whereas in Nagrand they all shared the kill. You can easily kill much faster than things will spawn which means it's not like true kill quests.

I liked EQ2's collection quests. Everyone got the items at the same time when they dropped and quest items did not consume a bag slot. Also you didn't have to loot them, when you killed the mob you got a raid warning if the quest item was there or not. Made for very fast collections.

Seconded. Simply making collection quests all group lootable would be a giant leap forward.

I have been railing against this for ages now and have submitted a Suggestions forum thread for it about 6 months ago it was.
I am completely agreed with you. It's downright flabbergasting that an MMO of all games, almost mandates solo leveling by the use of anti-group collection quests.
However, I have no hope at all that it will ever be changed I'm afraid.

Personally I think you should have picked your battles and not mentioned the group exp penalty.
I mean if we had to choose between collection quests dropping one item for everyone in the party and the exp penalty, I think solving the collection quests is 95% of the problem. Instead it's an unfocused discussion on group mechanics and people aren't really seeing that it sucks to do X times more mobs for collections.
But, I applaud your efforts :)

I felt if it had a few points they would be more discussion and therefore more replies.
