benq e2200 / 5770 hd issues

well so far ive tried installing current and previous Catalyst drivers for my ATI 5770HD w/ 1GB GDDR5 memory, graphics card
installing and reinstalling my monitors drivers, creating custom drivers using Powerstrip, aswell as changing to a dvi cable.

ive come to one fix and thats riunning my nvidia 9800gt (for screen resolution) however when multiboxing the fps im getting is really crap. wow did not pick up the 1920x1080 resolution of my force resolution from the nvidia control panel.

reinstalled my 5770 for better fps. and with the 5770 i apply 1920x1080 (which is by the way my monitor's max res) it comes up with an error saying Out of Range, if i force it through the graphics card, its goes all blurry and stretched (screen shot impossible, as it comes up normal if done)

im thinking of just cutting my losses and buying a nvidia equivilent to the 5770.

opinions/advice please:)

What refresh rate are you running the monitor at? Most "full HD" display monitors won't go beyond a 60Hz refresh rate (as this the refresh rate of a 1080i TV which a Computer Monitor practically is if but for the lack of inbuilt tuner).

What is the maximum size the display currently acknowledges without forcing?

Are the nVidia drivers completely uninstalled when the ATI card is in?

Have you changed or do you need to change any BIOS settings between the two card installs?

Have you run updates including Windows Updates (Assuming you aren't boxing under Linux or using a Hackintosh), BIOS updates, ect?

Have you tried a different power rail off of your PSU (if you have multiple 12volt rails).

The current HD5770 I own runs 2 BenQ G2410HD's - 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. I did (previous as I've currently quit my job to study an IT Degree) box 2 instances of Wow, both at 1920x1080, one per monitor. I got a fairly solid framerate on each (given this mechine is getting along in it's years other than the new monitors and gfx card). I get solid framerates playing FPS style games, ect.

I would assume your issue more relates to a setup/config error rather than a fault with your hardware.

Refresh rate is at 60 Mhz, max res w/o forcing is 1600x1200, all nvidia drivers are fully uninstalled upon replacing my ati back in. the bios im not to sure about, i tend to leave that alone as im not to good with it :P
gotten a majority of my windows updates. havent updated my bios., and my psu doesnt have multiple power rails

if you could posibly give me some ideas on where to go from here it would be appriciated

It's possible that the PSU just simply doesn't have the power to be spinning at full. Is the computer a custom build or a brandname? (The more info you can provide about what you run the better).

Did you use both power cords for the GPU?

The monitor will run at 1900 x 1200 (close) with old GPU. Not changing anything, your new card won't work. You have to remove ALL the old graphics drivers. The monitor should not change.
1. put in old card. remove drivers
2. put in new card, install new drivers.
3. profit

thats the cracking a nut with a sledgehammer approach.



uninstall the current nvidia drivers
download this program (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=582) to remove all nvidia files from your system.
turn off machine - install new card
restart - install ati drivers

(the issue you are probably having is that the system is not detecting your monitor correctly, so it will not give you the required resolution)
