View Full Version : Patch 4.0 expected date?

I've already let 2/5 of my accounts expire, and I don't plan on renewing the other 3 until patch 4.0 is released. I'm assuming 4.0 will be before the expansion and contain the new talent trees. I'm not expecting anyone to actually know, but does anyone have an educated guess on when 4.0 will go live? (sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology - please feel free to correct me) :)

Guessing based on Cata release in November that patch 4.0 will be in September sometime.
And judging by how buggy things are in the beta right now, I would not expect it any sooner than that.

Hate to be a nitpicker, but wouldn't it be 3.4 something or 3.5 since the 4.0 will probably ship with cata? Nonetheless i'm guessing it will be 1m-3weeks before cata ships (I'm guessing late nov - dec)

Oh right, I may have been thinking about 3.9 with the pre-cata events.
Though we will get 4.0 a while before cata release with new talents etc like we got 2.0 a while before bc and 3.0 a while before wotlk. I may just be mixing up the time estimates for that with that of the pre-release event patch.

That's why I was asked to be corrected on terminology in case 4.0 wasn't correct, but I'm still pretty sure it is. Usually they release the major game mechanic changes before the content (almost like a live beta test).

Unless they don't follow what they've done in the past... they will release 4.0.x *before* the launch of cataclysm. It will have the new talents and such. Just as 2.0.1 was release prior to BC launch, and 3.0.2 was released prior to the retail launch of Wrath.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that you'll be looking at at least one content patch before 4.0.1.
Im leaning toward December/January before we see cataclysm. Late November before 4.0
Beta still needs a LOT of work lol

I don't really care what they tell retailers. I am guessing January time range as well for having the game in your hands, not November.

They already stated there will be no more content patches, thats for a reason.
Expect 3.9 around the end of september and cataclysm mid november. (according to TWO gms in my guild ^_^)

I was under the impression that you were having fun with 5 priests. Did you get them to 80 already?
Just curious.

I am having fun, but really don't want to spend the time gearing them up for the expansion to hit. I'd rather take a break and come back totally fresh for when Cata hits. Plus, the priests are going to change quite a bit with the new talent trees, so when those go live I'll hop back on. I'm looking forward to the changes - although mana is getting more restrictive in the expansion, I think the changes to give free holy novas may actually help this team. I can't wait to try out 4x disc in PvE to see if their smite spam gives enough passive healing to run four "DPS". I'm looking forward to less burst since this team can (currently) drain a targets mana to zero in one GCD (4 mana burns). Lots of changes I'm looking forward to, but with nothing to currently work on in WotLK makes for little motivation to play at the moment.
They're all 79.

I also cancelled my subs till expansion, I may restart one account but currently thinking even from a leveling perspective, 70 - 80 exp requirement will get lowered a little and so why waste time leveling any more teams. I have 19 lvl 80s and all the rest of my accounts are all 61 or higher, so very much primed to level toons when expansion hits.
Now I just need another game to play instead of WoW :P

Cata not coming out until dec or later would be a loss for Bliz, people are already leaving or letting their subs run out, due to lack of new content. Sorry, RS is ONE boss and that will not keep people happy any longer than..hmm..now? I'm already sick of it. Believe is or not.. they WANT you to keep paying and playing. SO if Cata is not ready to launch by Nov, at the very latest, they will pull some content out of their ass ( like they Did with Sunwell ) to keep us busy a little longer, the pre-cata patch will help.

lol get starcraft 2 if you're bored. I got into beta and am doing this same thing owl. Im testing my toons that i intend to play(druids, dks, pallys, tested a bit on my priest, but solo it sucks, multiples will be fun as shit tho)
picked up sc2, and haven't really looked back at live servers. All my toons(dks /druid) are hitting 6k gs, all my pallys are sitting at 5300 ish and although i dont have a ton of proffessions leveled, im planning on leveling 4 more druids for alch/tailor(they're all lvl 42 and boosting when i find free time).
Between an hour or two on beta doing random things, sc2 (most of my time lately OMG fun game) and a bit of boxing till the accounts run out.
I'm telling ya tho, even tho they haven't announced it, there WILL be more content before cataclysm release. Echo isles event, deathwings destruction of the world, then patch 4.0ish and then cata. They have content reserves we dont know about :) just because they haven't told us "we have more" doesnt mean that they dont !

They already said that 3.9 (with the gnome and troll quest chains) and 4.0 (with cata talents) will come out before cata releases.

Yes, though maybe he meant the dailies to open the gates inside sunwell.
But he probably has the two confused yeah.

Blizzards in a bit of a bind here I think.
I can't see how Ruby Sanctum is going to hold off the hard-core Raiders until December, it's too early, too short and too easy from all account.
If Cata really is December (or thereabouts) then a lot of people are going to run out of stuff to do before then.
Personally, and despite the fact I've worked hard and spent heaps getting the pieces of i264 and above for my team that I've gotten, I think Ruby Sanctum should have introduced a final tier of badges/armour and heroics punted up to dropping frosts.
The only thing I can think of personally, that might keep people subbing through a pre-expansion dry period that could be this long is gearing up alts, and the frosties would make an incentive to do that.
Other than that, I've got no idea when Cata WILL hit, but from everything I'm hearing from people I know in the beta already, if it comes out in October, it's not going to be up to Blizzards self-professed normal standards.
Going to be interesting to see what happens over the next few months.

Meh the dailies to open up sunwell were a server wide effort even though it only rewarded a few guilds on the server. I am not looking forward to any kind of gated content release.
Edit: For some reason I remember 2 steps of dallies to open up the island and dalies to open up sunwell instance. I did them both but cant remember lol

Actually giving Frost Badges for Heroics would be a nice boost until the Expansion, I know it would piss off raiders but really the gear reset will happen with the expansion and all the frost badges would do is give us something more to collect till then.

I'd expect Cataclysm for mid-late November, in time for the Christmas sales. Which would mean the final pre-expansion patch for early-mid November. But that's just a guess.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see the 4.0 patch the week before Blizzcon. It almost fits in with your timeline but it gives them something extra to talk about and answer Q&A about. The only thing that might push it back till after Blizzcon would be not wanting to put out a major patch at a time that a lot of devs are pre-occupied.

Yeah I was on the whole November bandwagon myself but after looking at the current state of Beta they got a looooooong way to go. 84-85 content hasn't even been tested at all right now. Not to mention the buttload of bugs they're already working on.
I'm thinking they want to make Christmas sales but it isn't unheard of for them not to make it. The Burning Crusade came out at a very odd time. It was released on January 16, 2007 at midnight (12:00 AM).
This is all a bit like deja vu.
