hi guys im wondering what the cause of low fps is?

i can use 3 clients fine with thse specs:

nvidea 9800gt
q6600 cpu
4gb ram

upgrading to

radeon ati 5770
i7 930
8 or 12gb ram (opinions?)

do you guys think the upgrades will improve the FPS issues over 5 clients?

How do you get 8GB RAM with 6 RAM slots? Am I missing something obvious? I thought it would have to be in multiples of 3GB (3, 6, 12, 24).

I assume you're getting a new MB to support the i7?

I have absolutely no knowledge about hardware. But i know that a porche goes faster then a peugoet. So if you buy a better graphic card, there's a good bet preformance will improve yes.

Might be a stupid thing to point out, but why would he have 3 ramslots? Why not four? 4gb ram is probably 4x 1gig?

I think it depends on the MB (not a hardware guru, just knows what works for me). My MB has 6 RAM slots, and I use 6x2GB sticks, and I think most i7 compatible MBs are similar.

I wish - mine has 4 slots, right now with 4x2GB with an i7 mobo. I want to upgrade to 12 or 16, but that's going to be more spendy than I want to do right now.

Mr. Original Poster you don't mention anything about hardware brands or even a motherboard so it is impossible to say whether you'll be making the right choices. If you're going to buy an i7 930 and not use triple channel memory you're going to be gimping yourself. If you're trying to cut costs by only going with dual channel instead of triple channel I can only suggest you hold off until you can afford triple channel as to not cause headaches down the line during a memory upgrade. From the first post it almost looks as if you're going to try and drop a 930 into the same motherboard that is holding the Q6600, which isn't going to work.

Here is a generic answer. Yes if you upgrade your old hardware you will obviously see an increase in your frame rate, it would not make any sense if you upgraded your hardware from old school to mainstream and saw a performance drop.

You're safest bet is to go with either 6GB or 12GB. If you're going to be running 5 clients then 6GB may be cutting it a little close; I'm trying to think ahead here for Cataclysm too.

yeah i was thinking the 12gb may be the same bet
