So, I am at a quandry. Right now I am 5 boxing with my main on 1 monitor and the 4 alts on a second monitor that is the same size. The issue here is that 1280x1024 cut into 640x512 (x4) really isn't enough screen realestate to see what's going on. It's playable, but I'd rather have more.

I have 2 8800 GT's in my 4box machine, which means I can either SLI to one big monitor, or I can use 4 separate outputs to 4 different monitors. The debate for me, is which way to go? The cost really seems to be close to the same, and there certainly are benefits to either configuration. Anyone considered the same thing? Which route did you take? Why?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Multiple large monitors, imho.

I agree with Zin. I'm using 1 8800GTX for 2 monitors (1920x1200, 1680x1050), and splitting a 1680x1050 4-way isn't ideal, especially since my monitor resolutions don't play nicely with horizontal span mode. I plan on picking up another 24" soon so I can have 800x600 with the 4 alts on it. Since you already have two videocards, I'd definitely go with 3 monitors. Use one videocard for your main display, and the other videocard for your two other displays. Two cheap 19" 1280x1024 screens in splitscreen view (1280x512 or 640x1024) for 4 alts would be slick.
The one bonus I like about keeping the alt screens small (800x600) and on one monitor - it's less distance for the mouse to travel to interact between them.
