Hi all.
I encountered the "you have entered too many instances recently" but i only ran SM Cath so i am wondering if i where to run SM Lib,Cath,GY,Armory and then Reset all instances will this count as 1 of the 5 lockouts per hour? I can run SM Cath in very little time and this would mean im left with 40mins+ before the lockout reset's. I will ofc HS and quest untill it reset's but this is tedious.
Thank you!

5 instances per hour is 5 instances. The SM sector is not linked, they are each their own separate instance.
Suggestion; loot to take up time if your looking for ways to offset income. Once everyone hits lvl 60, buying a shit ton of spells, mounts and various other items adds up quickly.

Yes, I usually take a stroll by Herod too, just to not get locked out. But feel free to do all four wings, it still counts as one.

Those two quotes contradict, but i beliete Uffela is right. I believe all of SM's wings count as one instance.

Scarlet Monastery is counted as ONE instance, whether you run one wing or all four. If you run Cath and Armory, taking time to loot after the run, you can usually avoid the lockout.
As Gurblash pointed out, buying all the training, spells, and mounts for your toons when they hit 60 will cost more than a couple coppers. And the cloth and vendored items will help to offset that.

How about that, learn something new everyday!
On my server, Wool cloth seems to be going for much more than mageweave and runecloth. make sure you loot that at least :-)

There's an addon out there called Loot & Reset that I found was pretty handy to keep track of lockout timers.

A definitation of the lockout is more about how many times you reset the instance and re-enter, so if you run 2 or 4 of the wings, it is the amount of resets you do that defines if you get the lockout or not.
correct?
from what i understand, it's the number of 'fresh' instance you enter. doesn't have to be the same instance, and therefore doesn't have to be 'reset'

I'm wondering something about this myself now. Say I wanted to farm PoS for the hilts and gear drops. If I don't touch the bosses, and exit and refresh using the LFD tool, will I be locked to the instance and be prevented to reset it as if I were to kill Garfrost on heroic? I know you can farm him all day long with that tool for the Emblems on normal, but can this be done for trash farming on heroic?

You're not locked to a Heroic until you drop a boss. So yes, you could spend an eternity farming the trash for Hilts (and it's been my sorry experience, that that is about how long it takes to see one... lol!).
You're still subject to the maximum of 5 instances per hour, so if you're able to clear and loot all the trash inside of 12 minutes, restting the instance every time, you'll evenutally get the dreaded instance-error.
If your trash clearing time is more than 12 minutes, then you've nothing to worry about and can farm that trash indefinitely.

I don't believe that is true. I believe it's the number of "unique" instance you enter. SM is considered one instance, even though it has four wings.
The reason I don't believe your assertion is true is because a couple of times when I was done leveling alts in the Stockades, I'd have them summoned to SM. They would be locked out of SM, even though I hadn't reset Stockades. I wouldn't have been able to enter a new Stockades either (after a reset) because all instances were locked for me.

SM is considered 4 separate instances. The "too many instances" thing is related to how many times you click "reset all instances" If you could clear all 4 SM wings, in 12 mins and reset over and over, you will still get locked out. Best way to avoid getting locked out is to do a different wing or 2 without resetting, hopefully letting the clock tick around again.

To contradict what David said (And I could be wrong). In my experience, it's fresh instances you enter per hour - not how many times you reset (Although when you reset it's a fresh instance - so take that into account). SM seems to count as 1 instance total for this purpose.
I've had times where one of my guys accidentally logged out in an instance (My tank booster), and the other 4 didn't. When that guy logged back in to a instance it then counted it as one fresh instance. How did I know? Because this was the only guy locked out of the final run for the hour. And we all entered at the same time.
Also, I noticed loot and reset started a new timer when I went from SM -> ZF, even though I didn't reset the instance. If didn't restart the timer from SM-SM

Sorry to necro an old thread - I've just tried having multiple teams enter different instances, and it seems the 5 per hour limit is account wide. Anyone confirm/deny this?
RAF B->D, C->E, A not linked
Team 1: 85 pally, 4 x mage
Team 2: 75 DK, 4 x druid
Team 1 are in SM, Team 2 in deadmines.
I'll keep testing to double-check.
Also if anyone's RAF has run out and you have established teams, you may want to consider this option for levelling more teams (thanks to Uala/Mirai for the idea); I personally will be transferring the toons from the 6th and 7th account over once done.

It's okay to start a new thread on something that has been answered before, but necro'ing old threads makes people sad. :( Users get confused when people necro threads because they read the first post, or first page, and then comment on old things that may not be true anymore.
To answer your question, the instance lock is tied to the account, not the character.

While I agree that necro'ing makes puppies sad ( and I even heard that Santa kills an elf for each thread ;>) I have to disagree with the account instance lock. I have been able to boost my shaman (lvl 59-64) in HFR until the lockout with an 85 Mage, then log my 4DK-1HP team and run random dungeons for 30-45 minutes.
Maybe it has to do with using only 2 accounts to boost?

You can't get locked out of random dungeons through the LFD tool.
