... of coming back to WoW (currently boxing Anarchy Online) to experience one last time the original content before Cata.I've always leaned heavily towards the Horde but I know I will be trying out the worgen when the time comes so I'm far more open to playing alliance.
I'd like your suggestions on what class(es) to play while 5 boxing it without RAF.
PvP or PvE Server?
Thanks for your input!

I'd say go with a balanced group so you can chain-run instances with the dungeon finder. In my opinion its the best way to level without RAF. Unless you're fairly experienced in WoW boxing, I'd say keep it simple. Paladin 4xShaman is always a winner. As is 5x Druid, 5x Paladin (until Cataclysm).
I did a PvP server once. Never again!

Depends on what you want.
for pvp
4 shaman
4 rets + DK (their future is not certain yet in cata)
4 / 5 druids
4 /5 priests/warlocks
all works pretty well.
And for PVE any combination of tank, dps + healing works obviously. All personal. Simple is still 4 shaman + pallytank. But 5 druids can do aswell.

5 Shaman is one of the easiest, tried and true, swap one for a pally tank if u want good pve/pvp versatility. I run 5 shaman and 5 druids for pvp, and a 5 class PvE team, but just about anything will work. U can do heroics with almost any comp once you overgear it, Ive done heroics with 5 shaman (pvp geared)
Since u didnt mention PvE or PvP as the focus, the pally + 4 shaman is a great mix of both, u can make the pally holy for PvP to heal your team, or you can go Prot to be a meat shield, and u can plow away heroics with 4 ele shaman, or 3 + 1 resto if you prefer. Great synergy, great flexibility, great simplicity.
Ive always played on PvP servers, makes the game feel more real, like there's a huge cold war going on. Much more immersive, plus being able to kill the enemy faction when they are killing your quest mobs makes it totally worth it. It does suck from time to time

I don't see why you rule out 5xPaladin for Cata. I've yet to see anything (including the threads here) that makes me believe they'll be nerfed into impotence.
I've always been Horde as well. My highest level Alliance toon, up until a few weeks ago, was 12. A long time ago, I started a lock on another server, but I couldn't finish because I was just too busy with other toons. Since they now allow you to create toons on both sides of the same server, I started a team of Ally Druids. I was surprised at how much I felt like I was playing a different game. I don't know the quests, or where any of the NPC's are... i.e. the class trainers, flight masters, innkeepers...etc. The landscape is more lush and immersive.
I think the most refreshing thing was the maturity of the chats on the Alliance side of my server. Sure, there are always going to be a few trolls, but for the most part, the trade chat is used for trading, the guild chat is used for recruiting guild members... I mean, people were actually polite to each other. What a concept, huh?
Anyway, if you've always been Horde, I'd suggest switching it up and going Alliance. The only problem is you'll find yourself standing in the wrong place every now and then, and that can be deadly :D

Seems Paly tank with 4 shaman is still a great combo.
By the hints about 5 paly's not being as good as they are now I will steer clear of that option.
I've done the paly/sham x4 combo and 5 shaman a couple times before so it's kind of old hat and should be able to pick it up quickly.
I guess if I'm going to try to enjoy the old world content then I should stick with a PvE server. The pain of leveling without RAF is only exacerbated by being ganked/camped by 80's.
Ughh, my alt-ism with a smack of over-theory crafting.
More input is always welcome!

What changes to Paly's will affect boxing them like we do currently?

if I could do it all again, I would def roll 1 elemental, 1 mage , 1 warlock, 1 priest and 1 paladin / dk tank. So i could run some instances and get some gear. Then I would decide on a pvp team probably 4 shaman, and since you already have a 80 tank (half geared) you will be able to run instances with them.

Shouldn't you kinda already know if you decided against pallies because of it? We don't know a whole lot about pallies yet since they aren't done, but nothing I've seen yet leads me to believe they'll be nerfed into boxing oblivion.

Obviously not :p
I originally put to much stock into what was said by Kalros and since I've been gone from WoW for a while I'm still playing catch up. Additionally I had not noticed OzPhoenix's comment where he questions the validity of what was state.
So, yeah, I can change my mind.

they are changing stuff so fast theres no point trying to theorycraft anything until at least a beta build update is released. And a lot of beta stuff will change before release anyway, so I think we should sit tight and wait and see.

Right now, all I have seen is there will less auras/buffs so no need for 4-5 pallys to give those. If you prefer Melee, pallies are still strong choices.

Especially with the change to divine storm so it hits all targets in range instead of a limited number (unless it already does that)

This whole tangent has intrigued me so I started doing more research into this class topic and among the articles I read I found this from yesterday which encouraged me.

There seems to be a lot of emphasis on melee healing so the Holy Paladin seems to have a cool future. Thats probably the direction I will go, 5 human paly's (for racials).
Now it's just down to PvP vs PvE.
Thanks all for your feedback and helping me see where the game is currently! :)

Dont go human for racials, EMFH already got nerfed for cata(maybe sooner?). Unless your doing for diplomacy? lol
I still think pallies will be meatgrinders in heroics. Remains to be seen how losing cleanse(magic dispel part) in cata will affect rets in pvp.

PVP, if the opposite side takes your mobs, nuke!
Human are great, the diplomacy helps with the grinding. EMFH, i didnt know we have it, never used it, no biggie if nerfed.
I am on Ner'Zhul, PVP. If you come, I can help with golds (10K is okay to start out?) and bags and have company. Can be lonely sometimes.

O.o
If I had been drinking something I think I would have involuntarily sprayed it all over my monitor!
Seriously, though I could never accept that much. Maybe some bags and 50-100 gold but no more. I will definitely consider your offer to roll some toons on your server though SaraiE!

Come on over, my guild is named iBox. Guildmaster is Lamanh. I started boxing in mid dec. 2009. So just got the first team to 80, one she pally and 4 shegoats. I also have a priest+4 locks team and and five lock team, around 60.
If you decide to come, we can have a two set of priest+4locks teams or if you like, we can do 2 pally +4 shammies team....either way, people will get facerolled in world pvp.
Ya, I dont have much golds, but 10K is one week worth of dailiies...not too bad...
Give me a holler if you want to come.

I just dropped my pally tank in front of 4 shamans and am really glad I did. Still working on getting geared up, though. One shaman is spec'd restro. I just do PVE with them. If I get bored with this team I might just take my druids and spec a tank and a healer. I always wanted to do that. But I like my totems and chain heal!

My shamans are horribly undergeared but I find I can beat some bosses I couldn't with my pallies and at the same time bosses I can't beat now with my shamans. My dps was lower with pallies but they were much more resilient. Right now with my shamans I can't beat the first boss in forge of souls in heroic because i can't one shot that floaty thingy. Need more dps.

Pallys are getting a complete and total overhaul, I think the only thing I've seen in beta that hasn't changed too much is prot. Its still waaaaaaay too early to make any assumptions of how they will be. However that fact may be truer than most there is something that won't change much: pallys will still have high dmg output art of war and divine storm/healing hands. This makes for a solid team makeup and very resilient as the passive healing will still be very very strong. They/blizzard have stated that they want the dmg to feel more predictable and healing will be more reactive than proactive. This is super for us boxers as we'll be that much better at it due to the mechanics and how things work :)
Now how mana and regen and what not will work is another story and we'll have to wait a few more weeks but I think pallys will still be good. Repentance +hoj will be strong for cc as it will be needed, as much instancing as I've seen it will be lol
If you still want to stick with shammys they're gettin some nice tools too, and so are druids, which I myself plan to finish leveling because of how much fun I've had just solo in the beta with mine.
Also, a tank 3 frost dk and a shaman or ret will make a good team in cataclysm too, with some newer tools to make them work a little better. I ran in wotlk for a long time with feral tank 3 dks and it was a blast, always pugged a heals but it was effective.
Also keep in mind the racials are also due to get a semi complete overhaul, so pick a race based off how they look or how you want the team to work for you buy remember that the racials, while handy now, MIGHT be very different later :)
Ps - welcome back!

Tank the boss a bit away from the shamans so you have time to react when it spawns, target it, and spam spells at it while kiting the boss until the floaty thing dies.
Hit follow key in middle of room when soul storm thing happens, keep staggered tremors down, keep hitting follow when someone gets feared and keep dpsing. Rinse and repeat until dead.

Well, I reactivated my 5 accounts last night and after upgrading all my mods I hopped on my lvl 72 shammy group on Mag. It took a bit to get re-acquainted with my old setup but I managed to work some rust out and build on the muscle memory.
While in Dragon Blight I got my butt handed to me by a 80 warrior in what looks like high end pvp gear (I'm still out of touch on identifying gear). That spinning attack is just evil.
PvP servers feel a bit like a nuisance to me right now so I think I will roll a group on a PvE server. I just want to take my time and enjoy old Azeroth before she changes into a ripped garment.

I enjoy playing on Skywall US (PvE).
Rather limited as far as other boxers here goes atm, but I am very established and not going anywhere, and can help other boxers who would like to start a team here.

I'm on Dalaran (east coast PvE). I think I'm the only multiboxer there, though I did see another one about 12 months ago. I'd love to move to a PvP server, but my RL friends, who rarely play, will only play on PvE... so I'm stuck :) The nice part is alliance wins WG a ton and even successfuly defends WG about 75% of the time.
