For those who aren't checking the long threads of QQ or because this post may be lost.
Mike Morhaime himself has addressed the situation of Real ID as posted already by TehMuffinMan:

Win! \o/
I would love it if they simply changed 'Real Name' as your identifier to a single handle. If I could show up as 'Kadaan' on all my friends' friends lists no matter what toon(s) I was playing I would be a happy camper. My real name is pretty easy to find and no secret, but it simply ruins the immersion in a game to see real names instead of characters.

I find it amazing how many 'Real IDs' are pseudonyms. Maybe I just have humorous friends.

Wow. Real ID was the one thing keeping me from ever coming back to WoW, and they actually fixed it. Maaaaan, now what am I going to moan and complain about?
In all seriousness though, hot damn. I'm so used to companies announcing a bad policy and just pushing it through no matter how stupid it was. This is completely unexpected. Good on them.

On the other hand, I suspect this is only a setback, not a fundamental shift in policy or direction. Where stuff like this is driven by people like Kotick, I'm reminded of a scene in Serenity:
They'll come at you sideways.
It's how they think.
It's how they move.
Sidle up and smile.
Hit you where you're weak.
Sort of man
they like to send
believes hard.
Kills and never asks why.

YAY!!! VICTORY!!!
Thanks to everyone that helped in making this possible!
Man, I thought my time in WoW was finally over :/
edit: Maybe this shows that Allies and Hordies really can cooperate against a greater evil :)

It were clearly the hordies who had the lead in this and who made the most intelligent posts.

I feel saddened that I didn't get to be part of the epic thread to end all threads. But at least I got a vicious email out. ;)

To quote Churchill famouse phrase shortly after the French surrender was announced in World War II, this "is not the beginning of the end, just the end of the beginning."
Less cryptically - we've won this battle, but the impetus behind creating World of Facebookcraft hasn't gone away just yet.
This is not, I fear, the last we've heard of RealID.

I believe this is the case. Ithink they are going to try to creep it onto us little by little rather than just pull the rug out from under us. Either we won't notice the incremental changes or we won't unite against them like we did this time. This is pretty much why I haven't re-subscribed; it saddens me alot because I loved playing WoW but I can't risk being known as a WoW player nevermind a WoW multiboxer.

I'll bet they've each got a Beta invite in their Inbox now. Some people have all the (un)luck.

schadenfreude maybe?
thankfully the people who got the email were all people who raised the privacy issue in the first place.
one can hope/assume that they are a 'safer' crowd.

Wow, I can't believe the level of that snafu by the ESRB. Oddly enough, I did file a complaint and didn't get that email. I think I also clicked the "It is not okay to email me about this.", but who knows.
And no beta, either.

Heh, what I wanna see are the complaints to the ESRB about the ESRB's email practices. :p
