View Full Version : [WoW] Maxi toon List
Hi all,
i've been working on "Team" generated images which would be a bit more Multiboxer friendly than my original Multi-Toon WoW Sig (http://www.dual-boxing.com/showthread.php?t=27750).
just checking if there is any interest, as i haven't built the UI to create them yet. (probably this weekend)
Now available on wow-ratings.com (http://wow-ratings.com) !
This is not really designed to be a forum sig as it can get quite large; It's more of a funny/nice thing to have, to get a general view of your toons and progress. At the moment there is no limitation on the amount of characters or labels you can add.
the generated image just grows as it goes (and the refresh time as well)
I plan on having them auto-refresh every 5-7 days as there can be alot of toons to refresh.
Here are a few examples (based on the same sample data).
http://wow-ratings.com/showList.php?id=test
http://wow-ratings.com/showList.php?id=test&rows=A
http://wow-ratings.com/showList.php?id=test&rows=0
Any comments? (apart from "get better gear!" :-)
Cheers,
-Zub

If you could make a forum sig version I would use it in a heart beat, if not I would think it would have little interest.
You could use my site as a jumping off point if you want for "forum sized" team sigs.

The sig names can actually be formatted in a number of ways, for example you'll be able to change the number of toons per column etc.
for example, this one (3rows x 2 columns, with transparent background) seems a very acceptable forum sig:
http://wow-ratings.com/showSigList.php?id=forumsig&trans=1
and it's still refreshed automatically.
Your priest looks like she is "dead spec" :plol that's the guardian spirit icon (holy spec)
Have a look at the DK spec icon however (untalented) :-)

Just trying to give some commentary ... Its a lot of icons, and yes we get that they are horde. But some 'team' indicator of horde might be enough rather than present the horde icon over and over.
You might also not need to present the class icon in favor of the spec icon in the current play state. Its pretty common knowledge I think what a frost bolt means. In fact with a background you might use a muted class color for text
Something that might be useful would be dual spec icons where the icon is split
i was tempted to remove the horde icon at some ponit (the race icon making it redondent) but then I stumble across sigs that had Alliance and Horde toons, and those icons reallyclash nicely.
I'll have to try it both ways i think, see how it goes.
Using the class text color instead of the class icon is a nice idea, i'll give that a try and see how it goes.
THe only problem i foresee is indeed the background color not working well with some colors (priest comes to mind) but i'll try and find away around that.
Dual spec icons might be possible too, i'll see if i can manage it, but they might be a bit small.
thanks for the feedback

Pretty cool. And it is dense enough that I might actually be able to fit my 35 raiding level 80s on one sig!

oh my, haven't tested with that many lol, i'll try, there's no reason why it shoudn't work.
Depending on the display chosen, it uses about 25-30 pixels per toon, so that would give you a image about 200x1000.
might take a little while to refresh though (once a week), as it will need to fetch 35 armory profiles.
I've reworked the images based on HPAVC's comments, must say he was right, i think they look much better now. Thanks HPAVC.
Still working on adding the dual spec (when available) and need to resolve the clipping of lower letters (g, p, q etc)
then i'll create the UI
Comments still most welcome
Cheers,
Zub
Ok, i've created a simple UI to generate your toon lists,
The tool can be found on my wow-ratings.com (http://wow-ratings.com) website, or diretly using the tool link here (http://wow-ratings.com/index_maxilists.php)
comments welcome.
Todos:
- fix reported bugs (quasy draft version at the moment)
- add a summary of your current sigs/lists
- add a way to modify existing lists
- tidy up all field interaction (auto focus fields, etc)

ok must have been working on some of this most of it is working now
it's still on-going work, you can't update a sig at the moment, hopefuly this wiill be available this week.
You'll also have the ability to remove unwanted sigs if needed.

I understand its an ongoing work, but it has trouble finding some characters on the armory, particularly ones with funny characters. (â à á â).
Other than that, pretty interesting. I'm tempted to make a huge....not-signature. lol. added all my non-funny-named characters, and its huge. I can't imagine mecurios 35 char "image" tho...lol. geeze.

oh come on, it's not that huge *wink*

didn't realize the special characters wouldn't work (i put my druid Ghør directly in the database instead of using the UI)
Will work on fixing that asap

lol thats only 24 toons. So add about 10 more for Mecurio. And actually, 11 of mine are missing from it hehe.
I'm thinking with column's it might be small enough though....lol.
Hmm, the only question is column's by account, or by team?

column is by whatever you like!
just names and spaces to match the number of rows you set and make it look like you want

Woot, funny characters work now!
Btw, just a suggestion, row-based options if not too hard to implement, would make maintaining something like I just did a lot easier. Its almost sig sized! lol, thats a lot of toons. Either way, great job. very fun to mess around with.

lol you've been lucky because i was working on it when i saw your new list pop up hehe,
indeed i've added support for special characters, so tell me if you see any weird stuff (for some reason escape in JS is not the same as rawurlencode in php.. what did i miss?)
i'll think about the row thing, but i need to focus on WoW Rotations again now (and also on my 5 man group i finaly got working :-) Seems you managed well though, your list is quite impressive.
I've changed the settings so that it doesn't refresh only once a week, but rather a cooldown based on the number of toons.
4hours cooldown per line basically. So your sig will still refresh about once a week, but smaller ones will refresh much more often.
Thanks for playing with it, and if you like it don't forget to click the ads :p
Helps give me a reason to keep doing stuff like that lol
For those who created a Maxi List, i've added a quick-and-dirty way to see your team's gear.
just use your MaxiList ID, and instead of calling the url
showList.php?id=<YourID>
just call instead
showGear.php?id=<YourID>
for example http://www.wow-ratings.com/showGear.php?id=Nocturne
Hope it helps

Zub,
Thanks for making the sig creation thing. Mine looks fabulous in all it's glory, however, only a fraction of it shows up in my actual sig. Any suggestions? Is there a way to minimize the font/row height?

Hmmm.... I think I sort of fixed it by resizing the entire image and pasting that image into my sig. Rather hard to read and it will never update, but still pretty cool. Let me know if you can think of a more elegant solution.
i believe the sig size limit is set by dual-boxing.com, nothing i can do about unfortunately :-)
oh, and btw: you're scary >.<
