View Full Version : Oh my what have I become! (new multiboxer saying hello)

Hey folks! I've been lurking for a little while and thought I'd finally get around to saying hello and sharing a little about my team and experience with multiboxing.

Last month I re-upped my account to start playing with a friend who had jumped back in. I had never really dual-boxed anything before or even intended to. I'm not sure how it happened, it seems a monster was created in a mere matter of weeks. When I started back in late May I had one account on a dual-core machine. Now at the start of July, I somehow have 5 accounts on a quad-core, a new G13 gamepad and Razer Naga mouse. I guess I caught the multiboxing bug and I'm not sure I can ever go back to fielding a single account full-time anymore.

My team is 76-77 at the moment and doing alright. I have a full class spread with Paladin / Warlock / Shaman / Mage / Priest using click DPS macros (that I'm constantly tweaking) on a master key for all toons. My recount DPS ranges from 1000-1500 on average, depending on the instance. I don't AoE much, I'm much more comfortable with focus fire, one mob at a time, even on most trash. I only mention my DPS because I'm curious if that's low for for my level or about average, I don't know any other boxers to compare it to!

I've been doing most of my leveling in instances rather than out in the world questing. It seems to go about as fast, keeps me in upgraded gear, and I think it's important to learn the fights and pulls inside and out now for when I jump into heroics later. It's also great for showing me flaws I have in my key setup or macros that I can "debug" and fix.

If you're curious, this is my current setup. On my main monitor is the primary WoW client, on my second monitor I have my 4 slaves and room for a web browser, movie playing, etc... On the righthand side you see the VuhDo healer buttons, that's tied to the disc priest and handles all of my group healing as well as Paladin/priest cleansing. To the right of each character I have a hotbar with their class specific abilities so I can purge, counterspell, poly, and so on from the drivers seat. On the bottom left is another shared hotbar between all five characters - this handles everyone's buffs, accepting trades and the dungeon finder, drinking, etc... I think I'm gonna pull out the SpartanUI at the bottom to clean things up a little, and you can see the chat frames are totally out of whack thanks to the latest patch. I haven't looked into fixing those yet. I'm constantly tweaking and cleaning up my UI and welcome any feedback for making it more efficient.

These forums have been invaluable so far and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone. From setting up ISBoxer to macros and boss strategies, I wouldn't be multiboxing if it wasn't for this place!

Grats as the Gundrak kill. :)

You will find that as your group gear improves you will require less and less of the CC and special abilities. Keeping things efficient and simple will help greatly. I couldn't see the repeater regions in the screenshot but you can use several small regions over your VuhDo to controll more than one character's specials and you can remove some of your buttons. This will reduce your mouse movement. Just make a table of what each characters spells/macros are on a piece of paper until you have it memorized.

Good luck and have fun.

Hey thanks! I see what you mean with using the smaller repeater regions for specific specials, I think I'll play around with that. Right now it's just the Paladin and the Priest who share that region, the paladin for cleansing and the priest for, well, everything she does. I'm noticing less and less need for CC just as you mention, for instance when I started out in the Nexus back at 70-71 I was needing to poly and manage pulls...but now I'm pretty much grinding through everything without any CC - cleared up through Hall of Stone without much issue at 76 (clearing that one was especially fun as my characters were getting gear drops they couldn't even wear yet).

The Doctor has gotten me killed on many occasions. I'll get distracted and engrossed by it playing on the other screen, so much so that I fail to notice the patrol that's jumped my team while I pause to rest in what I thought was safety, not even the sounds of fighting or their dying screams seems to break the spell.

EDIT:
Woohoo! I decided to try and conquer Utgarde Pinnacle with my team (Tank 78, rest 77) and after a tough fight I did it! Only ended up with one wipe (the Harpoon battle) which surprised me since it was my first time through.

Wow. Grats on the HoS normal kill. I still avoid that place because of brann on heroic. I don't need that much drama. :)

I'm a big anime nerd, the names are all related to one of my favorite series Okami to Koshinryo (Wolf and Spice). Tabinotochu (on a journey) is the OP theme for Season 1, Ringobiyori is the ED but I'm not certain the translation(Ringo being apple but Biyori I'm not sure. Good weather maybe?). Lastly Mitsunoyoake (Honey Dawn, lit. Dawn of Honey) being the OP for the second season. Basically the only one who recognizes the pattern would be other big anime nerds, most of the time people just think I'm a gold farmer.

My next team will be a 5x goblin PvP team when Cata drops named Mac, Dennis, Charlie, Frank and Sweetdee - probably. That's a little ways off though, just hit 78/79 with the above group (finished clearing Culling/HoL/Pinnacle over the weekend).

Pants... optional.

That's the code I live by.

Normally we would romanize them this way:

狼 おおかみ Ookami

香辛料 こうしんりょう Koushinryou

旅の途中 たびのとちゅう Tabinotochu u

リンゴ日和 リンゴびより Ringobiyori (that one is right!) It means something along the lines of 'perfect day/weather for apples'

蜜の夜明け みつのよあけ Mitsunoyoak e (that one too!)

I was pretty sure that's what you were going for, but I've never seen things romanized the way you have them. The sounds are actually very different, and you have dropped all the long vowels, which is why I was poking some fun at ya.

Ah ya I took lots of liberties. I pretty much went with the diacritic versions, without the special characters

Ōkami - Okami
Kōshinryō - Koshinryo

I didn't like how the alternative but correct spelling looked "Ookami" "Koushinryou, Tabinotochuu"

Not accurate sure, but either someone running by would get what I was going for or have no idea. You caught me though, just don't tell my Japanese teacher!

Not sure if I should report this for gold farmer spam or assume it says what has been quoted.
