View Full Version : I was perhaps too picky with questing...

Here's the scoop for my shammy team leveling. I instance powerleveled them until L40, and then went out into the fresh air with questing. I followed Joana's Horde Leveling guide very roughly, thinking that I'd be OK with my progress if I didn't do every quest (especially collections) or do some of the hopping around. I was also quite aggressive in the level-range, since my three little shammies could kill things multiple levels above them. Worst case, I could add my L70 to the team and blast out any super tough quests. (He was on auto-follow, ungrouped, because he tended to scare off world PvP)

Long story short: I have gotten "ahead of myself" with questing. Since I blew out most of the available Un'goro quests at L48 instead of the recommended L50-51, I was forced to move on to Felwood. Now, most of the available Felwood quests have been done at L51-52 instead of the recommended 54-55, and I'm shopping for the next zone worth of quests. I'm continuing to be able to kill far above my level due to Totem of Wrath +Hit goodness, but I'm starting to get concerned that I'm meeting fewer and fewer of the minimum quest level requirements and will further exacerbate my problem.

Since the lowbie team is just a group of 3, running my own instances is less of an option than if I had 4/5 shammies. I think I may be forced to grind mobs for a level or two in order to activate the L55-58 series of quests in the last Azeroth zones. Fortunately, I have no plans to stick around Azeroth from L58-60, so maybe the "problem" isn't as bad as it seems.

Anyway, moral of the story is you should be a little careful to not pass on too many collection/problem quests if you aren't instance grinding as you level up your multibox team. It's possible, even with as many quests as there are in pre-BC content, to get ahead of yourself quest-wise. I blame Stranglethorn Vale, which I largely skipped since I hate that zone with a passion of a thousand burning suns. Moving up to the next zone of quests is probably what started my problem...

back to the instance grind for a couple levels imo. its either that or regular mob grind.

Dude just go kill Ogres around the lvl that gives you the best kill:xp ratio. with all those Shammy lammy ding dongs I would assume they would die in 1-2 lightning rounds. Most of the time have great respawn rate and generally drop a decent amount of silver.

When I run out of outdoor quests, I gather instance quests and knock them out. I try to avoid collection quests unless the xp or the follow up quest xp is really good.

We ran BRD with my Pally in Ret gear/spec this afternoon. Windfury/Strength/Agility plus 3 healbots was non-stop carnage.

Knocked out some quests for them in there, plus it was good practice in setting up macros for a group with mixed classes. I may run instances some more just to do those high XP quests...

East/West Plaguelands. I don't see anymention of them... if you haven't, there are level 51 quests in the Bullwark to kill stuff at each ofthe 5 farms, to burn towers in anderhal, etc etc... there are a half dozen kill quests in EPL that will generate huge amounts of XP. I'd wager that those questlines would carry you to 58, if they dont, then it's time to hit Silithus and kill some sandworms and knock out a few of the other quests there... and then you WILL be ready for outlands.

nearly every level range (even post TBC) has atleast 2 different zones that you can level in and has quests that you can do.

50-58 gives you burning steppes, western plaguelands

53-60 gives you eastern plaguelands, silithus and winterspring

with as little exp that is needed to level and the big boost to quest exp rewards for pre-tbc you should have no problem questing to 58 just change zones :)

then you have hellfire till 62 or so. zangar and terrokar until 64/65, blade's edge/nagrand until 67 or so then either netherstorm or shadowmoon till 70, very easy.

I personally instance grind because I was VERY picky With quests, if the quest required me to pickup more than 1 thing to complete the quest I didnt do it, now if I had would I level faster? quite likely. but then I am able to do instances with my 5man team. Dont be too afraid of collection quests though with only 2-3 characters. It helps if you dont think about it as a quest grind and that you are just grinding, the time it takes you to collect everything wont be as aggravating.

Yeah, hitting L52 was nice because it opened up another 6 BRD quests (which give massive XP). I'm staged to do them tonight, and then return to WPL to run those quests.

I had forgotten (and Jame/Joana's guides don't help...) that WPL has a lot of accessible quests for L50-52. I should be OK now, it was really L49-52 that became troublesome because I had done Tanaris/Ungoro/Feralas/Felwood much earlier than normal.

I'm also contemplating grinding Scholomance a bit with my Ret Pally + 3-Shammy team (the fourth shammy is already 70, as it's an old main). BRD has been easy, and it's been a while, but Scholomance might be just as easy. The boys just lay down windfury/str/agi totems and some healing/mana, and they can keep my pally topped off (which helps her mana) while she mows down stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of Eastern Plaguelands, although there are a couple of quest lines there that are favorites of mine. I may just be selective about EPL and hit Scholo a few times to fill the gaps. The DE/shards have been nice...

FWIW-- Burning Steppes is LOADED with item collection/drop quests. I elected to pass on a lot of them...
