View Full Version : [WoW] Picking a realm...
I am starting a new Tank/Healer duo... Druid/Druid. That will be on a PvE server.
If you were going to pick a new server to start on and needed to raise all your own funds, would you look for a server with a high population percentage of your chosen side or a low population percentage?
Most likely I will be mining, skinning, and herbing my way up the ladder to 80 for money besides what i get in in the instances. I do not believe I will be doing many quests, but you never know. I will prolly just harvest when in queue for the instances or need a break from the stress.
Any advise you all can give would be awesome. I have not played in a while and I never really got into AH work before so please be a bit patient with me.
I feel I need to clarify this actually... I am only really looking for info on how to pick a realm based off harvesting and the AH and how to make the most funds as I level based on harvesting.

Older, higher population servers typically have the most stable economic systems.
So does that make them better for selling off gathered items?

Yes, the bigger the better.
Since i feel there will always be more demand on herbs etc then that people gather them. So the bigger the population, the more expensive the, especially lowlvl, mats will be.

On high pop servers, I've noticed that prices are usually lower, and its easier to sell stuff.

It has been my experience that there are quite a few factors that affect this. Server population, PvE vs PvP realm, even down to the day of the week.
Perfect example: My hunter had made some Frosthide Leg Armor to skill up his LW. I posted 2 of them on the AH on a Monday, placing them for 24 hours so as not to waste time on the AH during "maintenance". Both sold for just under the average listed price of 163g. Friday afternoon, hoping to catch the "casual weekend crowd", I posted 2 more, on a 48 hour auction. Both of those sold for 255g each.
Pick a server you enjoy. Server transfers aren't cheap if you decide you don't like the place.
If you are just looking for a server where you can farm mats and be guaranteed of selling them quickly.... I believe Shodokan plays on Illidan :p

Whatever you do, dont just join any old realm because your wife's sister also plays on it. Otherwise you'll be living on the East Coast and stuck on a West Coast server where you can never find a raiding guild that has reasonable raiding times.
Just a hypothetical, of course

Or one that co workers play on and then you're on it for 4 years and have 1 or 2 server transfers offered TO your server not off of it. Has exasperatingly high prices (even higher during the weekend) and pre-dungeon finder a very, very, very small pool of decent people who aren't complete tools. Only to find out all your co-workers quit wow and you're stuck on a very low pop server with way to many characters to xfer...
Also just hypothetical of course
So the higher the population the better for selling harvested Mats. Thanks guys
