Things to do in Amsterdam when on vacation

I am going to be going to Amsterdam on vacation next month and I was looking for any ideas for cool things to do and see while I am there. I know we have a lot of EU folks here and also a few Dutch as well.


So... What should I do besides the obvious coffee shops and red light district?

If smoking pot and getting laid is getting old, you could visit 'the jordaan' or make a roundtrip on a boat (you can't miss them). You also want to make a walk along 'de grachten'. Besides that there are plenty of cool musea, but that really depends on your own taste.

Visit the obvious and do the obvious is the best advice for amsterdam.

If you go nearer the start of your time there, you'll get more of an idea of what is out there to do / see for the rest of your trip.
