View Full Version : A humble request on the keyboard-esque device reviews....

Please consider adding a comment or two on any keyboard type device reviews to describe how they feel to operate.
For example, I love the N52's functionality and macro capabilities, but really wish it's key feel was lessy muddy. IMHO, the keys have too much travel and are a bit mushy in actuation. (My preference is for short-travel, precise click type action, much like the classic IBM keyboards had, or a lot of current laptops have.)
For those of us forced to order things by mail, knowing ahead of time that the Xkeys, for example, has a crisp and precise feel, would be a huge help.
Thanks!

X-keys are smooth and have just about the right amount of travel. If you really want to build your own, you can do so with your own key switches. I highly suggest the X-keys. N52s, in my opinion feel cheap and cheaply made. (Considering you can get one for $25, they are).
The thumb button felt sticky and non responsive..... I don't like them.
X-keys sticks work great for out of combat stuff but "click" too much and are not great to pound on like the desktop or pros are.
The X-keys PS/2s are less programmable than the N52s - the USB version of the Xkeys much more so.
But that said, the PS/2 X-keys can still be programmed to repeat the key when held down, hold down two keys at once and toggle layers just like the N52. It just can't do amazingly complicated scripting like the N52 can do (like multiple keys held down at once, etc - things I have never needed).

Wow! Thanks for the great info, X!
Truth is, the basic repeat is all the macro function I need along with being able to customize the repeat frequency.
To be honest, I'm only using the thumb button currently. I have the n52 snuggled up all the way next to the left side of my main keyboard and simply swing my left pinky over and mash the n52's thumb button for the magic macro key. :D I'd be using the n52 as the main for the left hand if I didn't hate the keyfeel. lol
(My main is a raiding hunter, and the current best dps option is simply spamming a castsequence macro over and over. Rather than wear my fingers out or go insane from the boredom, I let the n52 mash the button every .2 seconds for me. Works great and I get to focus on tactical awareness, etc....)
Thanks again for the great info, I'll go ahead and pick up the ps/2 xkeys pro.
Cheers!

I gotta agree that the n52 is a really crappy feeling peice of hardware. it's the macro software and the easy learning curve for said software that makes it a must have. Another tool for your arsenal.

I am not trying to be a stick in the mud but isn't that considered botting by Blizzard?

Nope. The button only repeats while I'm holding it down. Auto-repeat as done by this device as well as the G15 have been confirmed by many gm checks as not being against the rules.

Yeah it is, but meh, it's not like he's afk or at work while his hunter farms for him ;)
