Taking the plunge - The Quest for Shadowmourne.

Introduction
I am the type of player that NEEDS a goal to make playing this game any fun. As you all know I have done a tremendous amount in the less than six months i've been boxing again. The thing that pushed me over the edge is all the knicknacks i get for each shadowmourne as well...i'm a sucker for cool rare things. Also the "material" cost will be recouped as I already have buyers for some things.

How it will be done
I will take three nights per week to raid (monday, wednesday, friday)

Step 1: Shadows edge and 1000 souls will be done next week. When i am not raiding or doing school work i will be farming for money as i will need money for infusions.

Step 2: Following week will encompass doing five alt runs with Blood Legion a top 10 in the world guild and getting the three infusions. Each toon will cost me 25,000 gold.

Step 3: The following four to eight weeks will then be spent pugging with a few groups whom have agreed to let me have shadowfrost shards. This includes three GDKP runs that are 11/12 with 5/12 hardmodes.

Step 4: Getting shadowmourne, The idea is to get them all in the same week but i doubt that will work out.

Each toon gets as follows.

Mauradin's favor
Reigns of the crimson deathcharger
Jaina's locket
Tabard of the light bringer
Sylvanas' Music Box


When i'm done i have a buyer for most items per toon. I will be keeping one of each type with the exception of deathcharger and tabard of the lightbringer.

Total costs
Well as most of you know I bought a shitton of game time, i'm regretting that as i'm down to about 35k gold. But there are some measures i'm taking to get the gold necessary to do this. A good friend of mine on Dalaran Horde is x-fering 125 primordials for me for the cost of the character x-fer + some rides to NYC in september.

125 Primordials: 75k gold
Bloods: 30k gold (i might not need to pay this)
Infusions: 125k gold
Shadowfrost shard buyouts: i will allot 20k to this

Total: 250k

Total worth of items that comes from it:
Each item sells for 25k on my server, other than the deathchargers which are 100k and the tabards which are 60k

I can recoup costs with selling 10 items, which is easily accomplished as i have buyers for six of them already.


Whats the point
According to a few friends who work for blizzard... the expansion will come out in october earliest, theres atleast two months left of the ICC buffs/halion encounter before 3.9 is released.

I really think it would be cool, and the buff you get from it is absolutely rediculous and it should last to level 85, though there will be higher DPS items i think the item is too cool not to get and use.

I also think an accomplishment of this magnitude will get me respect on my server as there are a lot of haters out there. We'll see though.

I love casters, but as we all know, melee are the ones that get the Legendary items. :)

I let the GDKP run leaders have my gold because i caused two wipes on blood queen which forced the group to stop. It was only enough to recoup 4/5 of the gold spent anywho and i feel they deserved it for letting me come with no acheive at all on ANY toon.
At this sort of ratio that is 15 hours raiding per week, which is far less than i had imagined it would take, and i enjoyed it minus them giving me shit for 5 boxing and saying i have no life etc.

It was priceless though...

I have never understood the rationale behind the "no life" argument. If I play a lot on a bunch of characters one at a time and show my overall played time, people are usually like "cool." But if I level up five characters in 1/3 the time of any of those other characters, I have no life. It's as bad as the people that assume that if I multibox, I should "get a job."

Nice job. I find some of these a hassle enough to single box. I wouldn't even try to multibox through them. Although I'd run my tank through a GDKP run if Horde on my server ever ran one.

Not sure about the respect you'll get, as you'll potentially be wielding an item (x5) that most in the game will never see, let alone use. I fear for the wave of jealous abuse going your way :/

That should easily outweight the awesomeness of you having multiple shadowmournes imo.

You'll always have haters, just imagine doing 5's with 5 shadowmournes :D

This thread makes me realize how bad my server sucks, lol. There's like 1 maybe 2 Shadowmourne's on our entire server I believe. Just a handful of raiding guilds- no guild is in a position to sell runs and GDKP fairly non existent.

Does an achievement title go with this? It would seem pointless with the expansion coming in the next 6 months to spend all that time for something that will get replaced relatively quickly once raiding etc at 85.
Now having a title would be cool though :)

The proc from the wep makes it best until level 85 anyway, which will take as long if not twice as long as 70-80.

Its the fact that you are getting the legendary that rocks, not necessarily how powerful it is. No legendaries from previous expansions are worth a damn for anything now except showing off, which they excel at, otherwise no one would still be obtaining Thunderfury.

However, as far as working your ass off to get respect from someone, that seems kinda silly. I play for me. The only time I try to change how others feel about me is when I raid Stormwind :-)

From what I remember, Thunderfury was by far the best threat generator out there, and an really superior tanking weapon in its days. Really was a powerful weap.

Good luck, but I think you are underestimating getting 200 shards to drop. We have a list of people all bunched up at the same point. Getting the shards. After 3 weeks of 25 and 10 man fights. 7/12 hard modes we have had a total of 8 shard drops.

That's crafted in Cataclysm and since it's first tier I'm guessing it isn't too hard to get made. Kinda like Titansteel weapons, granted titansteel wasn't too cheap at the beginning of Wrath

Shadowmourne is cool for the e-peen that is about it. By the time you get the 5th one done it will be like 1-2 weeks till cata and you'll loot a green off a moss snake that upgrades it :)

That is a lvl 85 epic btw, but I guess you are talking about Shadowmourne.

Stats will change on pre-cata gear, so it's very possible that Shadowmourne will evolves into something that competes with the level 85 blues, or ealry epics.

The tier 10 conversions and such are already done btw, on the beta realm shadowmourne is the same but the armor pen is changed to mastery.
