View Full Version : [WoW] So what's up with RealID and multiple accounts?

So as the servers are coming back up my friends and I started testing RealID and adding each other. So I asked them how they "see" me, and a couple see me as "Shocktwo, also playing Shockthree and Shockone" and another sees me as "Shockthree also playing Shocktwo and Shockone", and when they whisper me it goes to the character they see me as playing, not necessarily my main or the character I'm currently have in focus.

If you have whisper forwarding with jamba that won't really be a problem, and might even help you keep conversations with different people separate imo.

Ok, so now that our server is up and semistable I've done some more messing around. When I'm logged in on Shockone, Shocktwo and Shockthree (account names are respectively Accountname1, Accountname, Accountname2), people see different things. One friend sees "Ryan Lastname - Shockthree, also playing Shocktwo" and another friend sees "Ryan Lastname - Shocktwo, also playing Shockthree, Shockone). And this changes if either they log off or I log off. But there seems to be no rhyme or reason to which player you are seen as "playing" (which is the one the RealID whisper goes to), and it seems pretty common that they can't even see all three of my characters.

Sending a RealID whisper from a character they can't see to them does add that character to the Also Playing list, but it does not set that character as the "now playing" character. So this is all very confusing and could be frustrating if I ever end up using the RealID chat. I guess I'll give it a day or two and see if there's any updates or discussion on the WoW forums that would be relevant.

OMG, poor blizzard had to write code to accomodate multiboxers, lol, I wonder how much cursing went on when they were building this. I'm not at all surprised its behaving like it is.

God help us if this shitty feature is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Shitty in that it requires people to give up their account name and real name to chat cross realm when character name and realm name should be enough for the system to know who you are.

Welcome to Blizzbook, your new social networking subscription game ;)

I'm using the whisper forwarding, and the read id messages do not forward. Do I need to update my Jamba?

Yeah.... my good friend and I set this up today. It's very odd to see someone's real name... I don't know him as BoB XYZ, I know him as one of his game names. Silly feature, IMO. Not really sure I like my real name showing up anywhere, either. I can easily imagine an account getting cracked and then somehow the realid friends getting exploited in the process.... I give it 6 to 9 months befopre a news story arises about something like this.

don't give out your realid for now, until blizzard added more privacy options.

Jamba has not been tested with real id messages, so it might not work. You should get the latest version of Jamba anyway!

I don't understand what's so effing hard about ServerName.CharName for cross server tells. Fuck EQ could do it over 8-9yrs ago with even cross server private channels.

This REALID = retarded the next wave to come is WoWSpace on the armory. Personalize your own page with HTML centered around your character!!!!!!!!

Another massive complaint that I have is if I add some one to REALID they can see my other friends as well. Then the whole multi-boxing issue alone makes it annoying.

Things to make REALID worthwhile:
1) Allow me to choose which char is my "main" active char for all inc Real ID messages.
2) Allow me to choose what my RealID display name is.
3) Allow users to opt in/out if they wish to have their Name display in the Mutural Friends / Real ID Friends List. IE if you check no only people that you have agreed to being REALID friends with can ever see you. People who are friends of your friends will no longer see you.
4) Add ServerName.CharacterName chat functionality for all players. This way I can talk to people that are "WOW Friends", but not close enough to add to REALID.
5)Blizzard has access to our information why the hell do I need to give out my battle.net account? You should be able to add some one to a REALID by simply using their character name. SQL FAIL (Should be complaint #1)

/whisper BlizzardHQ.Developers Chat System Fail.

They want to ensure only people who really have reason to trust each other become real id friends.

How about Blizzard give you a code that can only be obtained with your Bnet, password and Auth code(if you are SMART enough to have one) That code would only allow you get your character data (your choice as Toned talked about. You could obtain different codes for different characters and the person could message you, and they would get the reply you were not online but the message would come through to any toon you were on.

maybe too much data to mess with on Blizzard's part?

I was thinking, if i ever get RealID i'd just set the name to show to Littleburst. But i'm asuming that's not possible, reading Toned's post.

Seems like blizz is doing again, at what they're good. Coming up with new stuff that doesn't really make sense yet.

It displays your FirstName and LastName from what is registered on your batttle.net account.

You guys realize it's optional right? I'm not sure I like it, or trust it, but I know I don't have to use it so... no biggie

The system is off by default, you have to activly turn it on by accepting a Real ID Friend or sending out an invite.

I don't really understand why Blizzard has gone so far and why they didn't just implement an "interserver friendlist" that would have allowed to chat with people using the screen name of our choice. I don't think that realID stuff is something that has been asked by a lot of people contrarily to a simple interserver friendlist that you could use with both true friends/family and in-game acquaintances which a lot of us are really looking forward to...

Mainly because it wasn't designed specifically for WoW, the RealID system is supposed to let people in different Blizzard games chat (i.e. WoW and starcraft 2)

This. I have a couple of people I would love to add to this, but no way am I giving up my (full) real name and my logon email to them. I'm not sure why it was implemented in it's current format, maybe it was rushed to meet the SC2 release deadline?

They want to ensure only people who really have reason to trust each other become real id friends.

Actually, no. They want to create more opportunities to cross-sell their suite of Blizz games such as SC2, WoW and D3 to people who may only be playing one of these products. Why else are they not charging for the use of RealID?

Don't forget that if you get your friends to give you their email, they'll never see yours, if you really distrust them that much. (shouldn't be realid friends with that kind of trust issues, but oh well)
