View Full Version : How strong should I expect my team to be?

I play a pally (4750 gs) 3 shaman and one lock (all 3450-3700 gs).
This team sucks right now! Or maybe I suck at playing them, that's why I'm posting this.
I have one sham dual spec resto/ele and usually run him as heals.
With a dedicated healer I can clear H UK consistently and nothing else. I can sometimes clear nexus, if I get really lucky with the Mage chick boss that throws everybody around, but usually she is a wipefest until I get to annoyed and log out.
I can kill the first two bosses in H AN, haven't even tried anubarak.
I can sometimes clear GD, but the colossus is a pita, even with the right totems.
I can't kill anything else consistently and I'm really frustrated with my lack of progress. Is it me? Is it just a lack of gear to OP these instances? I don't have time to raid, so that is not an option for gearing them out. I just feel like I need to run heroics to get gear with badges, but I struggle so hard in heroics that i get frustrated.
Here is my biggest question: some of you talk about clearing heroics in mins, killing bosses in 9 secs flat (niley is my boxing hero) ... Am I getting the power and performance from my team that they are capable of? Or do I need to get better at playing them before I expect more?
I use the click macros from the wiki, I play instances with a metronome running to get the most dps I can (less than 2k over a whole run, maybe 2400 on boss fights).
If more specific info about my play is needed I'll edit this later, gotta get back to work lol
Just a couple things i picked up on after looking at pally and shamans. Dont need to gem hit on pally just go all sta unless ur not def capped. Your shamans have no gems or enchants like at all even in the t9 gear which you would be keeping for a while they are all bare. Looks like the lock and the pally get the most attention dont forget about the shamans! oh and one more thing please get rid of that damn green trinket makes me want to vomit!

Probably just a gear issue and lack of knowing the fights /strats me thinks. Gear plays a very huge role in heroics though and once you hit a certain Plateau its like robbing babies of their loot. I know my 3 frost dk and tank druid team is well over 5700 or higher gear scores yet the way I play them and the spec they use they only ever pull close to 2400 dps too, tho if I were to swap specs I could be pullin 5 k or higher. I like the spec I use for my dks tho and its easy to just loli gag Through instances clearing easily. Farm what you can, buy what mats you can and gear up at the auction house. Find items that can be crafted and get /farm the mats solo and give a crafter a yell :). There are plenty of options

This is pretty much your problem in a nutshell-^ Go to the Auction Hacienda and buy yourself as much lvl 200 gear and gems/enchants as you can afford. If you don't have money for both then grab some gems and cheap enchants at least.

If you're pulling 2000-2400dps on your guys, you have plenty of DPS for Gundrak, AN and DTK. When I took my pally+4sham team in there, my shams were only pulling 1500dps consistently; 1800 on a good day. Learn the fights. Learn when to move and when to pop elementals.
Example: wait for Sladran to summon his 2nd wave of snake adds before you pop fire elementals and they'll take care of 'em. Set up healing keys or set up an "alternate dps" macro that has chain heals woven into the dps rotation somewhere.
Don't forget nature resist totems in GD/AN.
For the Colossus, when he starts to charge, move the shams left a few feet and he'll usually miss. Don't stack your shams on Colossus or the purple puddles will stack and gank the team quick.
Anub'arak is easy, just DPS the adds and watch for the spikes (you'll see bubbling sand under their feet). Make sure you face him away from DPS or Pound will one-shot them all.

You have 3-PC T9, so you should be facerolling this stuff. Gundrak, DTK and UK are pretty much ezmode on my group, so yours should be even easier. Thus, I suspect your problem is strategy and not gear.
If you have specific fights that are very hard for you, holler. I'm sure we can help with strat ideas.
Cheers and GL,

Thanks for the quick replies. I will definately work on all the gems and enchants asap, guildies are always kind and helpful for that kind of thing so that's awesome, I've just been overwhelmed with working fulltime and going to summer school 3/4 time on top of that lol.
For the shams I need to gem spell hit right? That's what I see as top priority in the wowhead gem weighting, so I assume that's still priority for boxers as well, until you reach the hit cap of course.
Laziness and boredom and limited playtime are the only things that get in the way of obtaining everything money can buy in the way of gear - I have a daily route that takes me an hour and nets 1079g + loot drops, so it's just a matter of time, and knowing what to shoot for.

Every time I hit a wall (which has happened 3 times since hitting 80), I sit down and rethink 1) my healing method 2) my dps macros and 3) my specialized functions (i.e. cleansing/purging/removing poison/aggro shedding) controls. Maybe comb through things. In my experience you can either use brute force (like I do in heroics with near 5k GS) or manage fears, magic and other debuffs to make your way through the heroics.
