View Full Version : Any point to Engineering (especially Cata?)

So right now my team - all Paladins - has the following professions:

1: Tailor/Enchanter (Plus Cooking and First Aid)
2: Miner/Blacksmith
3: Skinner/Leatherworker
4: Herbalist/Alchemist
5: Jewelcrafter/Engineer

All at 450-460 (belf enchanting), save for Engineering still at 385.

With the exception of Engineering, these all provide some use to the team. Tailoring for bags, Enchanting for enchanting of course, mining for Ores, smithing for 5 plate wearers, skinning for skins, leatherworking for drums, herbing for plants, alchemy for transmutes/potions and elixirs, and jewelcrafting for all my gems.

Engineering though seems to have only one benefit, Dalaran AH access.

My first team had engineering for Repair bots - but now you can teleport out of an instance, repair and hop straight back in, so I rarely if ever use the repair bots now. Everything else he can make only he can really use. If Cata brings us back to Orgrimmar as our main base, I can't see any point at all in Engineering.

I guess I could drop it for Inscriptions, but that beyond rarely changed glyphs, doesn't seeem to provide much benefit either. Another alchemist I guess.

Anyone else still have engineering in their teams?

Many use engineering for PvP (apparently nice burst damage from the rockets).

Ahh, see I'm a PvP-Free-Zone... hehe. Not even for gearing any more.

I suspect I'll be dropping Engineering come Cata, and most likely turn Pally5's second profession over to Alchemy.

Rocket boots, rocket gloves, and parachutes are the nice benefit of engineering :)

All 5 of my horde shammies have at least (425?) engineering for the rockets. Five flame shocks with rockets macroed is usually instant death. My solo mage has also had engineering since I started him in vanilla. It's never been a profession to make money with, it's more of a 'fun' profession. Thanks to the parachute cloaks, my shaman can do the 'slowfall-boom' that my mage used to do in TBC.

It's really your choice. If you want to make money, eng is not for you. I like it because of all the gadgets you can get. The possibility of screw ups make it even more 'interesting'. I remember in vanilla my mage was making a bomb (or something, I don't remember), and it blew up at the anvil, and killed my mage. It was amusing.

Engineer is really useful for Jeeves. I still have to level my engineering toon, but that is the only reason I want an engineer in the group :P

The two extra mounts might help with the Mountain of Mounts achievement. :P
