That basically it's WOTLK 2.0 with new raids and a lot of stuff that would basically be a content patch but is being pushed as an entire expansion?
I hate that nearly all their plans have been changed and that cool things like guild talents and path of the titans are gone.
Seriously is activision that hungry for money that they are forcing them to release an unfinished product? I know theres still beta and such but beta is almost the finished product where there are few balancing issues and kinks that need to be worked out but overall just an experience of new content.
I dunno, i'm just a bit frustrated personally and am a bit pissed off i basically am paying for the equivalent of two content patches. Yes i understand it's their whole 2 year model but still, i feel WOTLK'd ending is being rushed.

the original dev team already moved to other projects,
so we get only a new brew of some things (again).
it's a shame no other company managed to push out a similar product,
to give blizzard a "real" competitor.

in all aspects blizzard never had true competitors, no RTS has stood up to starcraft, and that game came out in 1996.

I don't mind. I just want to get back into Azeroth. Outlands and Northrend were really disappointing as zones.

The leveling better be less boring this time round. I could handle Cata being Wrath 2.0 becuase I like Wrath's systems, but not if the 5-levels are like 10 spun out even longer.

from my experience in alpha they are longer than wrath levels.

I remember them saying, at Blizzcon I believe, that they wanted these 5 Cataclysm levels to be just a long as Wrath's 10 levels.

They stated they want leveling to feel bigger than it was, hence theyre 5 more "meaningful" levels instead of 10 quicker levels.
I thought the pace of WOTLK / TBC leveling was fine, if they continue that im golden.
The big disappointmetn was the path of the titans thing. Supposedly they are going to be redesigning the glyph system instead, so there is still hope for some improvement there *shrug*
After reading their reasoning for ditching guild talents it makes sense, not too upset about that one.
So far the positives outweigh the negatives for me, and I am excited to go level in the old world some more.
Well see how it goes.

I'm glad they ditched the guild talents. It would have really kinda divided LoB since we have such a diverse crowd. I don't mind the leveling speed since I'm the minority that actually loves to quest. The path of the titans was kinda nice that they removed that IMO. I like the idea that I can swap to any of my toons solo and feel like I can do anything in the game without too much of a time sink (lol). Granted I have my druid, that has most of my achievements, and I'm not trying to duplicate that on all my alts, but it seems like the path of the titans was going to be a huge required to raid time sink, and atm, I have fun raiding on whatever toon I feel like. Just this weekend I dropped 35k on my DK and went and pugged 6/12 ICC25. Having that kind of freedom is what keeps me logging in everyday. If I had to do some kind of long grind to be able to stay competitive in raids, I'd probably close up shop and drop to 1 account only logging in every few days.
WotLK ending is rushed? I don't think so. I mean, ICC has been out for 6+ months and there hasn't been anything NEW since then (unless you count the gating of ICC itself) Killing the LK was one of my top 10 wow moments. It was a huge deal for me and when we finally did it, I truly felt ok with the expansion being over. They could release cataclysm next week and I'd be content with it. I'm glad they aren't, and I'm glad we still have some time left because frankly, I fear the change because it will all be reset. Gear will mean nothing and everyone will be racing to 85 and farming heroics with purpose again. The unknown of what lies head is what really keeps me playing. The time between expansions is nothing more than a means to an end. A journey to the next adventure.

I didn't see them throw a date out there and aren't they still in Alpha? It seems to me that it's been business as usual with Blizz. They are keeping things under wraps, and being coy about most things Cataclysm... especially the release date. Why would Activision come in a screw up the most successful MMO to date? That would be huge mistake, and I'm sure they understand that. I don't think they're pushing the devs to do anything other than "keep doing what you're doing."

Is the iLevel still shown in the gear in teh expansion? I believe that is what GS uses? I would love to see GS get dumped, really made the game even more of a gear grind :(

I'm not particularly looking forward to cataclysm. Seems like with the death of the LK, I've hit all the major points in WoW I wanted to. Nothing in cataclysm really makes me feel like I'm getting something new. More dungeons, more raids, etc. I mean, in BC we got the shamans and paladins in opposing factions, and heroic dungeons and badges, and arenas. In WotLK, we got phasing, some awesome plot, and 10-man raid progression.
At this point, it feels like that without anything particularly new and amazing, there isn't much to be excited over. Certainly not dumping another 200-400$ on expansions.
Of course, that may just be the burnout and the FF14 fever setting in.

Agreeing with Svper here. I really liked LK, the raiding upgrades have been fantastic for PuGers like myself. I just picked up my old priest, went shadow and did 6/12 bosses in ICC. Had a great time and the challenge was awesome in that I had very little knowledge of spriests and still managed to be second in dps after a little googling.
One feature has sold Cata already for me: Raids will be continuable such that you can join any raid that is say on 2/12. This has been what I have been asking for, now I won't be disappointed when the raid falls apart at Cata's Professor Putricide because we wiped once and it's late. Can I get a "Hell Yeah"?

I'm also glad they scrapped POTT and the guild talent systems. The whole POT seemed like LOTRO legendary weapons systems- which frankly sucked. What's suppose to give your character more depth actually making you more one dimensional being locked into a path.
As a multiboxer and only member of my guild - guild talents would seem more of a burden. Also would never be able to achieve most of the things offered since I don't raid. The reason I multibox is to keep my sanity and not have to interact with dipsticks.
Does worry me that more than one person in alpha is saying things are sucking... Saying besides the cosmetic differences not much has changed and it's a bit boring...So I dunno just have to wait and see.
Do know that I am at a real lul in my WOW life... Don't even play everyday anymore and the daily heroics beginning to feel more like a pointless chore as the expansion gets closer.

Has anyone got insight into how flying in the old world will work?
Will we have to be lvl 85 to fly in the old areas?

I am looking forward to Cata and I am glad they took out Path of the Titans if they couldn't make it simple enough but still be interesting and balanced. Excellent.
As for guild talents; neat in concept, murder in execution ... should LoB tune for 5-mans, Raids, PvP? So then you have to go to the guild that is optimized for your interest which deviates from play with those you like.
I think the rated battleground (in it's current conceptual format) make Cata a buy for me already.

It's always been a gear grind, you've just never had such easy access to such high level gear before Wrath.

For me and I am sure I am in the minority, I preferred when people either raided or just did dungeons, the split between the two was nice and so a toon could be maxed out with dungeon gear and not feel like they were missing out. Now with the ease people can raid it becomes a simple case of having a few hours of dedicated play time and anyone can raid. For me I cannot guarantee 2 - 3 hours of interrupted play time to any raid and so fall behind even the most casual player who may only play for a few hours each week but dedicates that time to a raid.
RL sucks LOL

I dont mind them dropping the path IF they replace it with something else (which is what it sounds like theyre trying to do with the new glyphs).
I read somewhere that they expect the Paths to make your character roughly 20% better i.e. an actual and noticible difference in character power.
I just hope were not losing that power and customizability.
Lets hope for more power from glyphs in place of Paths i guess.

You know, I'm kind of disapointed with how glyphs turned out. There isn't really much choice with them. They're really just like talents you buy off the AH.

It has always been there. If not GS, it was a certain AP/SP mark you had to have. Fact is, it is a lot easier to see high content now than it was in BC and a hell of a lot easier than it was in Vanilla.
I've pugged a LK kill... anyone pug a KT kill at lvl 60?

I think I'm near the end of my multiboxing experience, though I plan to keep one account open so my girlfriend and I can quest together. Cataclysm doesn't disappoint me at all, I'm sure it'll be as cool as the other two expansions, I just can't see myself doing the endgame grind again. Even with ToC and relatively easy badge acquisitions, continuing your character's progress after the level cap requires a type of mindless repetition not unlike watching re-runs of the same few episodes of a sitcom. I've submitted to the grind way too many times to suddenly jump on my high horse and declare that I'm better than that :) ... but I'm not doing it again. When I think of how much gaming and other stuff I've missed out on because I had to do my WoW dailies to buy gear, or because I had to get my daily dungeon run in, all simply so I would be powerful enough to do more of the same but with slightly stronger enemies (!!!) ... I feel a little embarassed.
