View Full Version : Is it worth having 5 multibox

Ok i started with 2 boxing and decided to try a 3rd....having 3 multiboxing just made it hundred times better.
Now i really want to do some dungeons aswell but as im greedy i want all the loot for myself and make precious gold :D

With 3 accounts it runs fine, but enter stormwind during busy times and its a slideshow
With 5 accounts i just dont know what would happen, but the temptation to go to 5 is killing me....Dont want to lower the graphs to much or the game will just look but ugly and ruin it.

ive heard people say u need quad core to multibox or 2 computers (dont have) to 5 box, so heres my specs, tell me if it can be done

Windows 7 x64
Intel core 2 duo E8400 3.0ghz
Corsair 2gb ram DDR2 (2x1gb) (im thinking this is what will stop me from pulling it off)
DFI Lanparty DK-T2RS
ATI Radeon HD 4890

So what do you think, am i going way over my head on this one :(

Can't really advise you on the hardware part. Some ram is indeed a must have, 1gig for each client takes the problems away i guess.

But "is it worth it" has been asked 10000 times.

Is buying a 1 million car worth it? Some think it is, some don't. It's Personal opinion. With a big P.

my opinion: yes, go for it.

Up your RAM to 6GB. No point running a 64-bit OS with <4GB of RAM.

I did have 4gb couple months ago but my motherboard didnt like 2 of them so now i have 2 left....trying to get more but the price of RAM right now is annoying.

Im running 3 from 1 install folder.
Is it best to create 5 folders of the game or 5 folders on different harddrives
or just leave as is

I will be running the game on 1 monitor, samsung 24" syncmaster.
Using keyclone in maximizer have 2 screens for slaves on the right, i can just about make out what im doing when creating there macros and spells what not...is there a way to switch around mid game..like screen 2 goes to screen 1 so i can sort there stuff out then flip back to my main then the same for 3rd, 4th, 5th

Having 4 on the right side i may not be able to do anything with them my eyes will bleed

I have the same monitor as you.

Keyclone has an option to bring slaves to the "main" window. In my case I have it setup to use the F8 - F12 keys to move between main and the different slaves on the big window.

I think new keyclone versions already come with preconfigured screenmaps. I did my screenmap before keyclone had that feature and I still use my original screenmap :)

How do you manage to bring slaves to the main window
Does this increase the size of each slave screen for me to mess about with the spells etc

So far i have set 4 screens to the left with keyclone...Cant read a thing there to small

Grab ISboxer. The windows layout wizard will have your windows the way you want them in a matter of minutes. Get the free trial see if you like it.

My computer isn't a powerhouse either and I run a team of 5 just fine. Only have 1 duo core processor 2.6mhz each, 6 gigs of memory, and 1 gig video card.

You need some more memory flat out. You can grab 6 gigs for like 45$ from Frye's, Newegg, many places. Memory is cheap these days...

Go 5. Though it's better with a 64-bit OS and 8gigs ram plus quad-core, I've heard people running it on duo-cores with 6gigs of RAM.

Go 5 and you'll never look back. :-)

Well i went out and bought couple gigs more ram £45 for 2gb of DDR2 :(

So 4gbs now i really hope this makes it alot better

Managed to get the screen switching on keyclone maximizer working

Is there a better way to make the train smaller.. Always get 1 who gets stuck when going round corners
i have 1 guy behind me on follow then guy behind on follow to that guy etc but it would be better if i could get them more close together and move at the exact same time as me. also fanning out would be great
Ive seen this done on my server, they make it more coordinated with 5 guys, only none of them talk when i ask them (yes im asking the right one :) )

EDIT: oh no, i cant upgrade the 5th account Error 203 :(
Just gone and emailed them

You need to learn how to drive like an 18 wheeler.

There is a limit as to how many trials you can create each month [or 30 days or whatever the time frame is]. Let us know if they lift that limit for you after e-mailing them, I'd at least like to know.

i just placed a second follow so they all follow master, it looks tacky but it does the job when there in a town and buildings

Having the 2 extra ram has gone and made a massive difference, the whole thing runs smooth

So far ive gone with 1 pali, 3 mages and a priest
did have 1 shaman, 1 druid and 1 priest and then would of added 2 warlocks but the tanking failed bad...getting the druid as a slave in bear form tanking just didnt work
Im not really into having 5 of the same class either, although it would make things easier

its weird that ive gone from 2 boxing to 5 boxing in the space of a week :/
But hey i love it, i just hope that in a couple months time i can part with a couple of accounts

I think its 90 days from the trial account open. When the links expire.

+1

I've boxed 2-5. For me, five boxing is a bit more tedious. Stopping to catch the "black sheep" up, leveling 10 professions, and having to field so many questions are a few of my issues. I don't get bothered by the flames, but I feel the need to answer the people who have legitimate questions. That's how I found out about boxing... I asked a boxer. I find that boxing 2 is the most fun for me, mainly because I can take two into any instance and my 3 kids can play with me. When they are busy I'll three box.

Couldn't you have Toon B follow Toon A and then have Toons C, D, and E all follow Toon B? That would get rid of two links in your 18 wheeler.

Makes more sense to have all toons follow The leader

This only stretches out the follow train even more. Just have 'em all follow the leader. Yes, you run around like an 18 wheeler, but following in succession would have you turning like an oil tanker instead.

I just made them all follow leader just makes things way easier

i did make a 5 man on the grim batal server...only used mazrigos before
i was met with a few insults so meh...pvp is prob not for me right now anyways...i did try out what 5 shamans would be like...was pretty dam sweet.

Been going through all the classes, wanting to try them all out to level 20 see what i like.
i like having a group of 1 pali, 1 mage, 1 priest and 2 warlocks or 2 mages, still deciding on these last 2...how this will work out i dont know...the more spells and what not they get i think the harder its going to be managing them all.
But i am loving the 5 man

I just got email back from blizzard saying this

Grim batol ftw

And why on earth would you want to not have the slaves all follow the leader >.>

Only reason to not follow the leader, is for showing off.
A train effect, to show boxing is fun, in a city or something.

I found that between 4 and 5 there isnt much of a differance. I 4 boxed for months , Pally and shamans. Recently i added a 4th shaman to the group and the only differance is a blow up the bosses faster .

it's all about the money.. everyone would go 10 box or 25 box if money doesn't matter ;-)

5 box is a good mix of costs & "what you get" for it...

Well i got a second email from blizz

Thank you for your email. Error 203 is due to too many attempts to complete an upgrade. Unfortunately we are unable to resolve this issue and to upgrade you will need to purchase a box version from the store, or attempt to purchase a copy from the blizzard online store.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

I thought buying it from blizzard online store was the same thing as upgrading via battle.net...oh well

After a few attempts it finally went through....but now cant get into battle.net :(

I dont think i would ever go higher than 5 accounts, cant really think of any need to
Now to have 5 celestial steeds ( kidding :D )

EDIT: Fully working now, got my 5 accounts :)

I did. 5 mounts that are both land and air - an easy buy decision for me.

Also, I reckon I'd diagree with drevil - going past 5 introduces a whole extra level of effort - leveling if nothing else. I could 10 box but I've never really felt the need to (though I'm much impressed by the success of our 10boxers in ICC10).

5 is the magic number......4 would be the bare minimum.
For someone that mainly pvp's, 5 is just about the min/max you should shoot for if your comp and wallet can handle it. I ran 4 shamans for about a year and BG's became alot more fun when i added the 5th. It gave me the extra power to drop people fast enough to to be able to handle groups of 5+. Hell, ther are some classes that dont even flinch with 5x LvB hitting them.....boxing ~4 or less kinda takes out the burst potential of boxers.

Now, a couple of months ago I got some druids and shaman up on a 6th and 7th account.......basicly trying out healers to add with my 5 ele shaman. Playing my druids healers first...I found out that it is alot more to manage and kinda backed off of that idea. When I feal like it again....I will seriously try the resto shamans for some WGs......but for now 5 is just too easy to try anything else.
