View Full Version : Will My System Support 5?

Processor: i7 2.67 GHz (not over clocked)
RAM: 12 gigs 1600 3 channel memory (max for this machine)
Video: EGVA GeForce 250 1GB (ordered a second one that will be here tomorrow)
Right now I can easily open up 4 instances and run them fine, but only have 4 accounts. Have been leveling my priest and druid (75 now) and when they get to 80 will move my 80 Hunter to another account (RAF it) so that I have 5 level 80s.
At the moment I have a bit of lag, going from 60 fps in Howling Fjord around the burning trees, which takes my fps down to 30 at the lowest, but it seems to come back up after being there a bit.
Any recommendations?
Thanks again,
Malgor

Yeah, you shouldn't have any problem at all. It might be slow in Dalaran though. I believe you're hard drive will be the bottleneck - unless you had a SSD or a raptor or something.

Thanks. Right now with 4 I don't lag at all in Dalaran, but for some reason parts of Howling Fjord slow my fps down. I'm 75 and still there, so should be out soon into Grizzly Hills or Dragonblight.

You should not have any lag with your system. I would turn down the video settings. Are you using IS/boxer. It will ramp down the slaves to 30 fps, but it might be in the effects setting under video in WoW

My system isn't much different from yours.
I'm playable everywhere, and smooth in most places.

Gaah, why is it that people with i7 systems keep asking: "DIS IS GUD ENUF, RITE!?!?"?

Alcattle - yes using isboxer. My only lag still seems to be in howling fjord. On Dalatan I am fine.

Maybe because not everyone is a computer genius like you and have a valid concern?

I'm nowhere near a genius. There's a search feature, why can't people use it?

Ok, I did a search for i7 & EGVA GeForce 250 1GB
Guess what, there were no valid results!
Sorry but each and every custom build is different, and some people are new to this, give them a break. If you don't like reading the threads, don't open them.
And just so I’m not being hypocritical, Malgor, area's thick with objects (such as the burning tree's, or terrokar forest) seem to slow down the best of machines, however that seems to just be WoW itself, the best way to cope is to either ignore or turn down the view distance, but I don't think you will have any troubles with 5 toons, I manage with decent settings on my old twin 8800GTX's and an old Core2 CPU (Upgrading next week to an i7/2x5870 setup and will try to emulate your exact situation)

Alright kids chill out...
If you manually look throughout the first 3 pages of titles of new computer builds and what not there are multiple i5/i7 threads to look at. Each one with identical responses for the most part.

Agreed, Sorry Sajuuk, I just dont like it when I ask for help and get these kinds of responses (I had the same when I first signed up here and it strongly discouraged me from returning)

I dearly dearly hope you're not using those 2x5870's for something other than just WoW. Now, if you have an eyefinity setup that you play games on other than wow, or do heavy rendering work, then so be it. It's overkill (if only intended for multiboxing wow).
Oh, and I mainly browse the hardware subforum. It's what I do.
By the way: GTS 250 = 9800GTX = 8800GTS. (aka good tech with a die shrink/power/speed tweaks)

Sajuuk - I use the search feature daily since I'm starting out fairly new to boxing "right". I have been boxing since EQ orginally came out in 1999. I played if for seven years. I've tried almost every MMO with at least two accounts.
Things have changed since I started replaying WoW in December of 2008. Now systems can handle multiple versions of the same game, but before that my desk was just strewn wtih computers. It still has four on it, but now with my newer system and ISBoxer I've seen the light of how I can rid my desk of the old relics of my past.
The search feature works, but only to an extent. As I'm starting to learn the WotLK instances I search for certain bosses, and sometimes, even though I know they are out there, it lists 40 posts and I read the first 20 posts and there is NOTHING in there about the boss I searched for - so the search is a bit flawed. Other times it works just fine.

And Fenri, you are right. Searching in that method seems to work better then using the search in some cases.

The limit of the builtin search engine seems to be that it ignores words shorter than 3 or 4 characters. An alternate method I use a lot is to go to google and enter the following request : 'site:www.dual-boxing.com my keywords'. That usualy yields many pertinent results :)
