Get those opt-ins ready for the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm closed beta! The sundering of Azeroth is nigh, and you don’t want to be left out in the cold of Northrend when you could be enjoying the sun-drenched beaches on the goblin isle of Kezan. To ensure you’re opted-in and eligible as a potential candidate, you’ll need a World of Warcraft license attached to your Battle.net account, have your current system specifications uploaded to the Battle.net Beta Profile Settings page, and have expressed interest through the franchise-specific check boxes.
So get your opt-ins set up, updated, and ready; we're worgen real hard to get the beta going soon!

Hhehehe good luck to whoever wants to get into the beta.
For myself...while id like to see the talent trees, id be pissed to play for a couple of months and then get my progress wiped. I r selfish.

I'm with Red... While I am opted in all I plan on doing is maybe looking around and that's about it... Hate to spend a bunch of time on anything that will be deleted.
Not sure if I even want to look around really... I've been in several BETAs before and they tend to ruin the excitement of the expansion and make me burn out quicker once the game goes live.
What has me excited is the SWTOR beta, lol... That way I can make my decision if I'm headed off to SWTOR or staying with WOW...
make me burn out quicker once the game goes live.
Mmmmmmmmmhmmmm.:(
ill look for a few minutes so I know whats to come but most likely wont leave major city.

Personally, I'd love to have a beta key. While I only got in on the tail end of the Wrath beta, it was nice to see some things before they were changed or nerfed with launch. I don't intend to play so much that I don't get a thrill when things actually go live, just enough to get an idea of who I want to level first and if there are any preparations to make before the 4.0 patch.

Wrath beta was fun to run around in for a little while, but sites like mmoc put together great pages for all the info that it's easier to just read it there. I think the only reason I really logged into the beta for Wrath was to find out which of my mods were going to break, and find replacements for them before live.

If my whole team gets into beta (ie my entire b.net account) I will probably play quite heavily, testing instances and reporting bugs. If its just one character I probably wont play much and just have a poke around and look at talent trees.

I hate to tell you but when you get beta you only get 1 account.
as in my Battle-net has 3 accounts connected to it
I logged into Alpha/Beta and they consolidate it to 1 account which you can transfer characters to.
So no multi boxing beta for single battle-net users =(

Another good reason to have your BNet accounts separate! :)

I wish mine were seperate. That'd also mean 5 times more likely to get an invite.
Only real reason I got mine on 1 is for the authenticator and that's the only advantage I guess.

You can attach a single authenticator to as many BNet accounts as you'd like, in turn, requiring only one code for all of them to login simultaneously.

Learn something new every day, lol. Now I feel reeeeaaaal smart...:D
So there is absolutely 0 advantage to having them all on the same account I guess!

People keep talking about BNet wide heirlooms, pets, and such. Hasn't happened yet. Also I guess it's easier to manage your accounts, but I'm rarely on the account page anyway. As much as I login all my characters at the same time it's a nice convenience to have. You can call Blizzard support and have them separate your accounts for you. It's a process that can only be done over the phone. I had already created extra e-mail accounts ahead of time so that when I got to the customer service rep it took about 10 minutes to complete the process. Waiting on hold....that's another story though...

I wish they'd do heirlooms though - and more than gimmicks for bnet... oh and discounted transfers... and more than 8 accounts on 1 bnet... and put back the "1 auth key" works for all accounts like it did for a while... so yes it's far from perfect at the moment

the limit on 1 auth key is due to the timer which helps pervent keylogging scum bags from stealing keys. get more Bnets<> sorry

This timer is non-existent with multiple BNet accounts and 1 authenticator as we stated earlier in the thread. That's why there's the hype around having separate BNet accounts. It was a change by Blizzard, for unknown reasons, that they never publicly announced.

can you guys clarify this more for me, i just recieved my authenticator but haven't attached it yet. I can attach one authenticator to my bnet account (all my accounts are under 1 bnet account). Can i login on all of them at the same time or do i have to wait 30 seconds between logins?
thx

you have to wait in between logins if your toons are on same bnet - it's a bit annoying but you get used to it

They did announce it in the patch that changed it. What had happened was that the original authenticator code on the servers wasn't treating them as OTP (one time passwords) so you used to be able to login, logout real fast, and then log back in with the same auth number. This wasn't really noticed till Battle.net came on the scene and once they forced people to upgrade to it the bug was spotted and then fixed. As much as I like the previous behavior, it wasn't the original intention. So the OTP is currently set at the Bnet level. They could piss more people off by setting it at the auth level (which is really what they should do if they truly care about security, the idea being that each auth code should only ever be used once across all accounts, bnets, etc.), or they could set it at the account/license level which would allow people with the same Bnet some relief.
As for the use in fighting key-loggers, it's a myth. If you have a key logger on your machine, having an auth isn't going to prevent a login from hackers. Once your machine is compromised, there isn't much that can be done to protect you. A good key logging program would just steal the auth code, prevent the wow client from logging on, and then connect to the blizz web site and change your account to use their auth. Granted, they might require some other things to change your the authenticator on your account, but the point is that the hackers have now gotten past your authenticator and logged on as you.
Sorry for the ramble, lack of sleep and all that.
