View Full Version : [WoW] Tank as slave?

Has anyone tried having the tank as a slave? I mean by activating right-click-to-move and interact with target functionality it is possible to make the slave run to a mob and attack it from the master screen. You then instead can have a healer class as the master and be able to heal more effective.
Is it doable, or is this idea just plain stupid? :)

I have thought about it but tanks are more movement dependent. Healers can heal from anywhere. the ability to kite the mob to the spot you want him to be in range of DPS and heals seems to take presidence over heals if you have macros and keybindings set up well. Of course an all hunter group or a Quad hunter and in heal maybe what you are looking for. Pet tanks. As a X5 Druid team fears can position my tank out of position and I need to have control to adjust. I dont use IS boxer yet but i have seen someting called click regions set up with Healbot that looks pretty kool for healing from the main tank screen.

It is doable but pointless based on using grid + clique or healbot. Especially using ISboxer with repeater regions activated having your spells as "mouse over" based on your unit frames.

Before Interact-with-Target I leveled a 5 pally team to 50 that way. The tank (back with the other toons) would pull and the target would interact with them. However, movement would have been a big problem.

With IWT/CTM, you don't need to be on the tank (or any of the melee toons), to have them move into melee range.

However, as far as positioning the mob, or using the tank to face a boss away from the group... that is quite hard to do, when driving with the healer or one of the DPS toons. And it is very easy to do, while playing the tanking toon.

You could easily use IWT to move the tank and melee into position. Then PiP swap to the tank's window and turn/position the mob, then PiP swap to another window etc.

Once in position and with the mob facing the correct direction, being on the tank or not is irrelevant. But you'll want to be back on that screen if you need to move or turn the mob.

Being on the healer is largely irrelevant, thanks to repeater region heals or to a lesser extent thanks to several toon specific healing macros.

I could see you wanting to be on a ranged DPS or the Healer toon, to have everyone but the tank move with you, to get outside of some crap on the ground or a nasty AoE.

CTM/IWT gives you a bit of flexibility in that regard. You would need your set up to allow for a switch, without follow automatically occurring. If follow was entirely manually done, then a toon window switch would not mess up your positioning, and this would give you ultimate flexibility in how you play.

It's very doable but I think anyone who's tried it will agree it makes things infinitely much harder. Just not worth it imho.

I actually was considering this back in the day before click to move and interact with target for my melee teams as it would be extremely simple to get everyone in melee range. However I ran into problems like cleave and such and I dropped the idea.

I could see a hunter type toon (any caster), dual-boxing or more then two accounts even, with their Feral Bear pets (or most other tanking types).

I would say ask the 10boxer that has 2 tanks doing ICC =p
it seems easy/doable other than positioning but that can be fixed/get used to over time.

It's definitely doable, but in my opinion it's not worth the 10% chance of your tank spontaneously running off a cliff.
