Every now and then I would get a comment while dual-boxing, but over a few days of 5-boxing, I can't believe how often I'm commented on or whispered to - and I've been writing them down. I've got a few 5-box teams on a few servers to try out different combinations, so they may not make much sense when referring to my characters. These whispers all took place from level 1-8, so this was as expected. There are plenty of other comments in /say or /yell, but I haven't bothered to record them. If someone whispers me, I feel compelled to at least reply in some fashion so I'm not hassled by GMs..
The most common initial comment is some form of:
"wtf"
"GLITCHER!!!!! /REPORTED!!!"
"where did ya dl the bot?"
"What are you guys? Quintuplets?"
"Are you a pimp and the other 4 your girls?"
"Can I join you guys????"
"Wow. A 5-boxer! Now THAT'S badass!"
"lewser.. ok i'm just jealous"
What's the reactions everyone else is getting.. and around what level zone does this sort of thing wear off? I'm getting a little tired of running by other players, only to watch them turn around and follow me. (Or worse yet, they make a new character copying my character in looks and names!)
Frankly, I'm stunned how many people react in a negative 'loser' way about multiboxing. I tend to think these comments are either out of jealousy that they can't afford the system/accounts or it's simply spawned out of their own personal lack of self-confidence. The $75/mo isn't a big deal to me when I spend 3x that amount taking my girlfriend to a nice restaurant once. I spend a hell of a lot more buying tools and working on my cars, so does that make me a loser in that hobby as well? What about the frequent $200 receipts from the art store for oil paints and brushes? These kids need to understand that things change once you get out from mommy and daddy's wings, finish college, and get a career.
As most of you are I'm sure well aware, multiboxing doesn't define you as a person - just another fun way to enjoy a game. That arrogance toward spending extra money on one game is what bothers me.. especially from those hypocrites who call 'loser' when they're putting in 5-10x as much time into the game on a weekly basis as I am.
