Ah man, Suvega I feel for you - I'd hate to go up against her on a dispute!

I admire that twat for going trough the work of writing all that crap, but I also find him extremely pittifull as he probably was one of the "ZOMG, NERF LOX!"-people pre-2.2. (why pre-2.2? Well, havn't heard much whining about locks since then :P)

Want competition? Try'n figure out a way to counter it yourself, THAT'S being compettetive. Personally, I've found numerous ways to counter the quad-shammy group, in theory anyways. Would love to put it into practise, but there's just too much work involved xP

EDIT: WHOA! Sigs going wild with the new format. I'll go fix.

Hehe, after nearly ten years of off and on multiboxing, I've learned these arguments really can't be won. But then again, isn't that the rule for the internet?

Nonetheless, MMOs continue to be made with functionality that really only exists to make life easier for multiboxers, although they're never really supported directly, since it's generally a small cadre.

Not surprising, though, since a larger than normal percentage of people who multibox work for game companies. I imagine there'd be quite the outcry internally if any action was taken against it, other than dealing with botters.

Mind you, I made an appearance on it as well *shrug* ;)

Go Vyndree, he's just another whiner that doesn't know how to play, same as the guy that replied to the blog on the main page. They just refuse to learn the tactics to try and beat us and just QQ over the forums.

He started catching on near the end. The fact that I got him to change his tune from "QQ they're cheating" to "ok, how do I beat them" makes this a success in my book.

16 pages...Epic QQ :D

Multiboxing has certainly gained a higher level of awareness with Ellay's successes in the arena...

I think the biggest key is that people who haven't boxed think it's easy, and kind of slough off the difficult aspects, or they heighten the things that work well to far above the level of value that they have.

For instance, the fascination with synchronization of attacks and burst damage. It's there to a degree, but it isn't instanteous for a boxer either. It's not uncommon for me to be clearly connected to different server player process when running in a box, just by virtue of the failures that occur, so world processing of attacks synched on the client aren't necessarily processed at exactly the same time according to the world (assuming all traffic actually took the same route). Other things like inventory queries, on the other hand, seem to be bottlenecked. However, this advantage is hyped to the point of raw invincibility and cannot be matched by any human player. It's always some supposed advantage.

I wouldn't really knock the guy, though. I think he still clings to his core ideas, but yeah, he's been open to talking about actual solutions. I guess it's his first experience with this kind of thing.

I was pretty happy to see how fast people replied shooting down the "botting" and "cheating" accusations. It definitely seems the WoW community is becoming much more aware of the subject of multi-boxing.

The big difference I've seen between WoW and my old pvp world, Guild Wars, was that spike teams coordinated by multiple people on ventrilo were COMMON on guild wars. Synchronized casting and a good coordinated team could drop a person in less than a second. (I enjoyed playing the counter class to spike teams, SB/infuse monk)

I really wish I had a good video of how these teams were done. Guild wars pvp shifts as much as WoW pvp, except that there are new classes that I didn't keep up with that seemed to kill the viability of pure spike damage, low defense groups. I remember showing Suvega when we first met and letting him see how fast we could drop enemies when playing a good necro bloodspike.

So the fact that coordinated damage isn't COMMON in wow doesn't mean that it can't be done. I think the problem is more that spell cast times are different based on your class, and nobody tends to use 4 shaman or 4-anything since it's hard enough to find a balanced, skilled and geared group much less worry about the perfect class/spec combination. And with guild wars, you could make an instant lvl20 (lvl cap) character for use only in pvp at a whim, spec it how you wish, and be ready to go in 5 minutes.

Counter-tactics

Splitting ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Splitting')The most general way to stop a dedicated spike team is to force them to split ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Split') between multiple objectives. Because spike teams are calibrated to deal just enough damage in a burst to kill their target, often a split spike cannot muster up the damage to score kills. When spikes do split, they often split all of the spikers onto one team and the healers onto another; this can be used to the advantage of the splitting team. Sending one or two team members off to another objective is often a hard situation for a spike build to keep control of.

Catching the spike 1/4 second healing skills such as Infuse Health ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Infuse_Health') can be used to "catch" spikes in progress. Removing the deep wound ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Deep_wound') or predicting the target and applying damage-capping skills such as Protective Spirit ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Protective_Spirit') and Spirit Bond ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Spirit_Bond') also helps stop spikes from succeeding. Against ranger spikes or adrenaline spikes, skills that allow blocking such as Aegis ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Aegis') and "Shields Up!" ('undefined') can also help significantly.

Shutdown ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shutdown')Skills such as interrupts ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Interrupts'), knockdowns ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Knockdowns'), Blackout ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Blackout'), Diversion ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Diversion'), or Guilt ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guilt') can be used to cut down part of the damage so the burst is insufficient to kill the target. Against ranger spikes or adrenaline spikes, blind ('http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Blind') or skills that cause the opponent to miss can be effective as well.

Suvega is probably thinking "I finally met "Miss Right"...I just didn't know her middle name is "Always". :P
