View Full Version : WOOT! Marrowgar Soloed!

Today I was able to get Marrowgar down :)
204
205
The nice thing is that I got him down with five well geared toons (5500 GS) and another five that needed just about everything that could drop (4900 GS), so I could use the loot. And after continued crappy luck with VoA10, I hit the jackpot with two nice weapon drops off Marrowgar!
I probably put about 10 hours into planning it out, creating macros, changing specs, and adjusting my setup, and wiping and changing my strategy before he went down. Should be time well spent if I can get my other two similarly geared teams through with any consistency.
Sad thing is, I'm headed out of town again until next Saturday, so no more funz for a while. Not even time for a Deathwhisper attempt.
One day I'm going to actually find some time to transfer my setup from Keyclone to ISBoxer. I would think that would help.
Anyway, just thought I'd share and encourage anyone else out there thinking about 10-boxing ICC that it is definitely possible. If I can do it, my bet is that you can too!

I changed specs around a bit for this fight, but ran with:
2 Resto Shammies
1 Holy Priest
1 Prot Pally
1 Prot Warrior
1 Boomkin
1 Surv Hunter
1 Lock
1 Mage
1 Ele Shammy
I wiped about 9 times, but was in ICC for about 3.5 hours by the time I got him down. Of course, some of that was clearing trash, at least an hour writing macros before I even made an attempt, and some time tweaking things between each wipe.
The resto shammies each healed one tank while the priest did raid heals. Just using keyclone ATM.

Congratulations! While I won't be 10-boxing on my realm (Cael) there's a whole bunch of us OCeanic 5-boxers, so seeing a 10-boxer down an ICC boss is really encouraging.
Well done!
Very impressive, congrats!

Mercurio (http://www.dual-boxing.com/member.php?u=5880) way to go!
I tried him again this week and got him to 40% but I still can't get him down. Right now I am just using 2 priests for healing so I think I might respec my boomkin or shammy to see if its easier with 3 healers.
Did you use the same positioning as theradin?
How were you handling taking down the bone spikes?
I setup a separate macro to /target bone and then have all my dps cast fast nukes and that seems to be working ok but if a healer gets bone spiked its almost always a wipe.

Hey Fail,
I actually got him down to 35% on my third attempt on him, so was confident I would be able to get him down eventually. I would definitely recommend using three healers - it really helps. Even most PuGs I see three-heal on him just to ensure there are no problems.
My strategy is a bit different from Theradin's. I typed up some notes for myself in what I need to do to prep for the fight and get him down - posting them here is just a quick copy and paste and may help you or others out, so here goes:
Marrowgar
Druid innervating priest(s)
Priest left-click = flash heal
Priest right click = target
Key changes (from normal setup - what I change keys to for this fight)
Priest AOE Healing = Holy Nova only
1: All have follow except priest, hunter, and tanks
2: priest circle of healing (?- no, nothing for priest on 2)
3: for resto shaman targets focus and casts lesser healing wave, for priest prayer of mending on MT
4: for DPS /tar Bone and quick/insta DPS attacks, for resto shammies assist priest and riptide, for priest PW:Shield current target
5: for resto shaman earth shield (no macro)
6: for resto shaman healing OT, focus MT (if needed when OT falls and need all heals on MT)
8,9: One resto switch super mana totem =8, mana pot=9, other vice-versa
Resto shaman change keys 3-9, priest change 3,4, DPS change 4, tanks change 3 (to some defense key)
Setup
DPS focus on MT, resto shams focus on diff tanks, priest /clearfocus
Conc and Devo Auras
Pets out
All buffs (ensure pallies have Righteous Fury on)
Kings/Sanct
Fish feast
Tanks standing on snow patch with backs almost to wall, hunter well away so Marrowgar has to move back to tanks
Priest as raid leader, all non-tanks, non-hunter on follow
Starting fight
Earth shield both tanks, restos drop totems (str/armor, mana/heal, frost, air) ele (tremor, wrath, healing, ?)
Moonkin form
Pally wis, Warr Vigil
Earth shield both tanks
Run one resto shammy near tanks, drop resto totems, run back and follow
Warr shout
MD to MT, MT Exorcism, Avenging Wrath, Avenger's Shield
Phase 1
Move healer and main group behind Marrowgar into hit box
Spam 2, 3 for tank heals, 5 as needed to refresh earth shield
Click-heal tanks to keep tank health even
Bone Spike
Priest right click on spike
Spam 4 to heal and kill spike
Phase 2
AOE heals, click-heal hunter as needed, DPS as possible
Try to get bonespike out prior to moving if bone spikes right before phase 2
At end taunt with tanks (4 and 5), move BOTH tanks up if needed to ensure they are hitting with melee
BL after 1st phase 2 is over
By the way, 2 is normally my main DPS/tank threat key (healers do nothing when key 2 is pressed). Other than that the Key Changes listed above are what I stick on my bars for the fight.
I hope that helps - would love to hear that you've gotten him down too!

Thanks for sharing the info Mercurio I think it will help me out a lot. I am out of town on business this week so I don't think I will get another shot at him until next week sometime.
I will post a Screen shot if I am able to take him down.

So I have a theory.
I think Theradin is pulling stings at our workplaces to keep us on the road and away from our computers so he can continue to be the only one soloing ICC. I've been out of town the last two weeks on business and will be out most of next week as well.
I blame Theradin! :D
(Like he's worried anyone can overtake his rather incredible feats)

Just a suggestion - when we 2 X 5 box this, one tanking him makes things INFINITELY easier. If you have a relatively geared tank, I highly recommend dropping one of the tanks and going with one tank (our other paladin just goes holy), 2-3 heals depending on gear, and then 5-6 dps. For lady deathwhisper as well (at least until phase 2). Makes targetting and such much much easier there as well - just leave one tank autoattacking her. Once you get by lady though, ship, sauron, and fester are absolute jokes though!

Gankstah, you probably don't want to hear this, but I got him down with my second 10-box team yesterday. That team had a pally tank still using Rimefang's Claw, so he was happy to get a nice mace upgrade.
I'll have to try with team #3 later today.... though that team has a tank with a 4464 gear score, so things might be tough!

Merc I can't begin to imagine how long it takes and how much work to manage 3 10man teams... but still I have to give you shit. The totem of nature resist in the Marrowgar screenshot is epic :)
